Dave was one of the truly good people in the world. As long as I have known him, from back in 9th grade, he had known what he wanted in life, and worked hard to achieve his goals. And he always had a smile on his face. He always knew 2 things for sure: That he wanted to be in law enforcement, and that Jessica was who he would be with forever.
Dave will be sorely missed by so many people. My thoughts and prayers are with Jess and the kids, as well as the rest of the family, and all of his family in law enforcement.

Petzold Family,
We have not met, but we were so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. The giant flag over Preston Lane was a fitting tribute to David and his years of service. After hearing about Officer Petzold, our college freshman spoke to us about remembering him as his D.A.R.E. officer and how he was was a great guy. Please know that his impact on our community will continue through the lives that he touched.
Sincerely, The Schubach Family

To the Petzold Family,
We have never met, but Dave was involved with my DARE classes at Southern Lehigh Middle School for several years. He truly was such a caring, thoughtful and understanding officer. Through our conversations, I knew he loved his family, his job and children. Teaching DARE was one way of being able to reach out and help the youth of today, and he did it well. I am sorry for your loss, and my thoughts and prays are with you.

Dear Petzold family,
We were so saddened to hear of Dave's death. Only recently we met Dave as we needed help and guidence for our son. He told us to call him if we ever needed advice or help. Whenever we called, he took the time to guide us in making the right decision. Even though he had just met our son, he made himself available to us because he really cared. We were so grateful for Dave's help and so admiring of his character. I know you must be so proud of him. God bless you and your family.

From the FBI Newark Division, our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave's family and friends. Although a valuable member of the FBI only a short period of time, Dave made the personal decision to return to the work that was dearest to his heart; police work in his local community. This is where he knew he could make a difference one person at a time each day of his life. Dave will be sadly missed by all of his friends and colleagues with whom he worked in the Newark Division of the FBI.

David was a kind, thoughtful and compassionate man. As Detective he worked carefully and tirelessly to get the facts and he never compomised his ethics or values. In personal conversations he was very passionate when speaking of his wife or children and the warmth and love he felt came through. He will be missed in this community. My prayers go out to his wife and children. May God bring each of them comfort in this time of grief and may He meet all their needs in the coming days.
