In Loving Memory of Delano E. Bortz.

Delano E. Bortz, a vibrant soul who lived a fulfilling 89 years, departed on September 16th, 2023, at Phoebe Home in Allentown. He was the devoted husband of the late Caroline M. Bortz for over 62 years, a loving father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather.

Delano was born on July 30, 1934, to the late Elden R. Bortz and Helen A. (Dries) Bortz. His life was marked by dedication to family, a strong work ethic and active community involvement. Delano and his family called Macungie home for nearly a century, leaving a mark on this community.

Delano's journey in life included operating Elden R. Bortz Quality Meats alongside his father until 1972, followed by a career at Kraft Foods, where he held various roles until his retirement. He generously gave his time and expertise to Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie, serving on the Church Council and participating in various committees. Delano was a proud graduate of Emmaus High School, Class of 1952, and continued his education at Allentown Business School. Delano also served in the Army National Guard and was a long-time member of the Lehigh Lodge No. 326 Free and Accepted Masons.

Delano had a wide range of interests and embraced life. He was an avid fan of Emmaus High School sports, the Phillies and Penn State. He also enjoyed working in his yard, playing cards, dining out, and spending time with his family and friends.

Delano is survived by his loving children, Jan Mitchell and her husband Jerry of Allentown, and David Bortz and his wife, Fran, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Jennifer, wife of Harley Kunkel, Stephanie, and fiancé Ben Linchuck, and David M. Bortz and fiancé Margaret; and great-grandson Harley M. Kunkel. He was preceded in death by his half-brothers, Elden and Bruce.

Delano will be remembered for his love and dedication to family, community, and the Freemasons. He touched the hearts of many and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Services in honor of Delano will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 26th, at Grace Lutheran Church, 28 West Main Street, Macungie, PA, 18062. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM before the service at the church. Interment to follow at Solomon's Cemetery in Macungie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Delano's memory.
