Though I haven't been in contact with Donnie or the Nester family in many many years, I have some very fond of Donnie. May God carry you all through this sad time and may good memories of Donnie last forever.

There is a poem by ~Helen Lowrie Marshall called "Afterglow" that you might like to look up (I think it would describe Donnie)

God Bless Each and Everyone of you,

Growing up, I knew Donnie as a good friend of my brother Alan. I remember him for his kindness, sense of humor, and wonderful personality. A story I'll share is when we worked on a house-painting project many years ago at my brother's place. I had not done much spackling before that. Donnie showed me what to do. Every so often, he'd stop by to check my work, shake his head, and say "Don't use so much spackle, you'll be sanding that thing forever". He made the work fun. I hear his words to this day whenever I'm spacking. My heart-felt thoughts and prayers go out to Donnie's family and friends.

Dear Nester family. Words can not express the sadness I am feeling in my heart right now. Donny was a very special childhood friend. We had a lot of good times together when younger. Hunting, fishing, dirt bike riding, hiking...too many wonderful times to mention. As we got older, he was the Best Man in my wedding. Over the years, we sometimes don't take time to keep in contact with the special people who touched our lives. Life gets very hectic sometimes. Donny and I did lose track of each other for a little while, but within the past few years we had been in touch. And my wife and I are thankful for that. We will miss him so much, and will never forget the happiness and joy he brought into our lives. Love

When Zachary and Drake were growing up you could always count on Donny having a smile and some kind of humorous joke. Although I knew him briefly, I can attest to the great gifts he has imparted to his son, Drake. Their bond was palpable and the support and dedication Mr. Nester had for Drake was undeniable. His face would light up with his son's accomplishments and creative talent, even if it meant driving two or more hours in a snow storm. The heaven is a better place having him among the angels and the earth has been blessed to have known him. Godspeed.

July 5, 2010

I am truly sorry about your loss. I only saw him waiting for Drake after a King's Theater performance. May God give you a peace that only HE can give during this time. You are in our prayers. (Karen Tomasacci, Lukas' mom)

Mr. Nester was an incredible human being. He always brought a smile to my face no matter what the situation- whether it was at stressful rehearsal, after an exhausting day in England, or on his boat at the lake house, trying his hardest to toss me into the water. Drake and Mrs. Nester- I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. He will be missed, but the beautiful memories will live on.

Dear Nester Family,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Donnie was a wonderful and loving person who I spent my childhood with. He was full of laughter and smiles that never seemed to wear out. He had great personality and huge heart. I was so glad that my daughter got to spend time, be it chaperoning or doing theatre with Drake, with someone who brought such joy to my younger years.
You are in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss him dearly.

Mr. Nester was a great person. He was one of my chaperones when I went to England during the winter of my sophomore year. He always knew how to make everybody laugh with either his jokes or his ability to take pictures of himself. I will never forget the times he pulled me on the 177 cm. tube behind his boat and tried to knock me off into the water. He was a great person and will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you Mrs. Nester and Drake.

We will always remember Don's gentle humor and patience as co-chaperone's on the fast paced Emmaus H.S. tour of England.Ted and his co-C-Pap user were always the first to fall asleep on the tour bus. He entertained all with his jokes and picture taking especially when he found a way to get himself in the pictures. In this modern day world where most people are too busy to help, he exemplified patience and fidelity to Sue and Drake. He was so proud of all of their talents and always willing to lend his help no matter what the task- even ironing costumes for South Pacific with a smile on his face.
Our thought and prayers are with you Sue and Drake, you have been blessed with a wonderful Husband and Father. We pray that your memories of all the wonderful experiences you have had together will strengthen you at this difficult time.

I don't really know what to say. Drake, Mr. Nester's son, is a very good friend of mine. Mr. Nester was such a wonderful father and an amazing friend to all. His smiles and jokes always brought happiness wherever he went. He was friendly to everyone, and really made a room come alive when he arrived. His smiles were infectious. He was a great man and I'm so sorry to see him gone. The family of Mr. Nester is in our prayers and in our hearts. Let us know if we can help in anyway.

Mr. Nester,

My adopted father. You will be dearly missed, and will be forever in my prayers. You left this world too early and we're all feeling the loss of such a great man. Your strength and power (which I feared while sitting next to you during "Wonder of the World") will live on in your children, whom you loved so much
.
We always joked around that Drake was my brother. I make this promise to you now, more than ever, that he always will be and I will be there for him whenever he needs anything, even if its just a good raquetball game.

You are dearly loved and missed

Sue, Drake and family, My heart goes out to you. My first thought when I heard was how I would miss his smile and humor. Seeing him put a ladies hat on his head and strike a pose; seeing him carrying in tons of costuming materials; his being able to make everyone laugh to lighten the mood... I feel blessed to have known him. One of my favorite memories was when we were doing Les MIs and we were finally getting to the point were things we coming together. Drake was on stage, having finished a section of dialogue and Don turned to me and with the biggest grin said, "he gets it from me." So many memories of his clowning and so many memories of him going the extra mile to help out and to care. I miss him, many others will too. I love you both. Don was a good man and he love you both. <3

Sue,
What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why he left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived. And that his life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. May Don rest in peace. My heart goes out to you and your family in this time of sorry.
