I am very very sorry to hear of Don's passing, especially when I tried for months to see if he was ok in his building on the bottom of Hamilton Street, with no time was good to see him for awhile. I remember him at his lab at home in Orefield and did some flooring for him, but above all, he took care of my pictures I took on the sidelines at Penn States football games I had sideline passes for and he enlarged them to sizes I never knew he did. Lots of joke for sure when I got to see him. For a reason to check the internet to see if he moved or was sick, I found this page this afternoon of August 14, 2015 and it was a very very sad that he passed away without me seeing him. I would like to known where Don is buried and will definately visit him now and then as long it is not in another state.

It is said that we all have a twin wandering around somewhere in this universe. I'm hoping to meet Don's twin really soon. I miss that mischievous smile, your regular surprise visits to our shop, our planned dinner fests with you as main chef (what the hell is Chris going to do with the big green egg???, and your friendship. Thanks for so many good memories. You were a great friend!

What to say that hasn't already been said...Don was just one of the "real" people of sorts. So very, very, sad that someone like him is not part of this world anymore. I worked with Don helping him with technology at his business years ago, helping me in the process as well, was fortunate enough to spend time with him as a friend too. I'll always remember sitting around the big fire in the yard outside the Orefield house eating great food; hanging with the group at the house in Macungie listening to all the "reno" plans/stories and enjoying one of his gourmet Thai recipes he just whipped up, to name a few. Chris, Ian...my deepest condolences and prayers. If there is anything I can do, don't hesitate to call me...

Don was a great man a great friend. He was such fun to talk to. I always felt that I learned so much while enjoying myself whenever I was with him. He was a man with a solid point of view about everything - food, travel, art. You name it and Don was well versed in the subject. And you could learn soooo much while laughing with him for hours. All my many memories of Don and all the adventures we had together have been playing out in my mind. Don taught me about foreign cars and the hours we spent together working on the jag were priceless. All our hikes and other adventures were always great times to talk and share. He was a great friend and I am truly sorry we lost each other.

Ian, Chris, Lisa...We're still trying to get a handle on it. Don was one of those guys you just wanted to be around because you knew the conversation would be interesting. We worked together on many projects over the years and consulted with one another regarding new ideas and future ventures. He always seemed to add new twist or suggestion that we had not considered. He really cared. From the early days hanging out at Lentz's we shared many different brews. Whenever we found a new one we thought “I wonder if Donnie would like this one?” He was a true friend and we will miss him dearly. We are truly sorry for your loss.

To sum up Don in a few words is impossible. To try and capture some of the many outstanding traits that made him such a magnetic personality would be his super sharp mind and quick wit which made for a million spit out your beer funny moments, his unfailing way of stepping up to help with any favor , requested or unrequested, that he could lend one of his many skills too and the fact that Don truly lived life they way that it was meant to be lived, making each day count with his business and personal relationships…which of course with Don were indistinguishable. Don was a student of life with a mind permanently in curiosity overdrive and could never be satisfied with the status quo…whether it was with printing, fabricating, or a recipe on his beloved Big Green Egg. That passion for the next adventure will serve him well in his new home, which is a big win for heaven and a loss for all of us here until we meet again. Thank you for everything buddy, you will be forever missed but the stories and memories will always live on.

gee, my sister just corrected me about our fun times at chris and don's home in Macungie--I guess there was so much of him in that home that it felt like he was there--he was that kind of man and I spent so many fun times with he and chris at parties and functions--just a very dear soul.

Don was the first person I met when I started going to Jordan Lutheran. Growing up we were together lots getting into all kinds of trouble. We went school and college together. He was the one who got me the job at the Allentown Service center on the turnpike. We went to Watkins Glen twice for races. We hiked the Appalachian Trail in New Jersey. We repainted the Jag. I could go on and on. His death saddened me- here was a person who loved life and tried many things. Gary Walbert

Hearing of the passing of Don Wertman was crushing to me. An incredibly personable, intelligent, fun loving soul. I met Don my first year at Kutztown, 1968, and we quickly became companions. We attended school, studied, caved, worked on cars, ate and drank together. Don and John C. talked me out of a major caving problem in Wrightsville, Pa. He was a wonderful friend. Why someone this precious passed so young I'll never know. Sorry it's been so long since we spoke Don. Many thanks for the time we shared together.

My husband and I were new friends of Don.....in the short time of knowing him, we new he would be a keeper! We will keep the memories of good times and of course....the sign to the restaurant will forever be a remembrance of him! You will be missed! When I first met Donny in 1976 I knew he was a unique soul--a country kid who knew about Jaguars and Range Rovers, part mad scientist, part gastronome, part underground adventurer, all genuinely interesting and always fun to be with.
Oscar Wilde (paraphrased somewhat):: "People cannot be categorized as good nor bad. They are simply either charming or tedious."
Donny Wertman was anything but tedious.
You charmed us all with your intrepid approach to life unchained...and occasionally rattled. And I miss you very much, my friend.

So many wonderful tributes to Don, and all are spot on. Though my quarter century relationship with Don was on the professional level I always found myself referring to him as ‘my friend.' Somehow I don't think I am alone in that. May God bless my friend and all those who love him.

I knew Mr. Wertman as a scout leader for Troop 60 many years ago. He wonderful guy, and -- though I was very sad to hear of his passing - it led me to many fond reminiscences. I hope all his family -- and Ian especially -- know that others are thinking of him and them.

OMG, Chris & Ian, I am so sorry to hear this news! I just cut Don's hair 2 weeks ago, he was a customer along with his mother since I became a hairdresser almost 40 years ago.
How true the comment !!! he had such a positive attitude,Don has helped me out many many times with my Beauty Salon Business!
He was a true friend, always supportive in my ventures as an Entrepreneur…..through finding one of his friends to help photograph my work …to helping me move my shop….to letting me store my equipment in his warehouse… to buying my handmade scarves…as gifts … NEVER wanting more than a thank you ….I always enjoyed hearing of his business ventures… travels , good food & drinks he enjoyed @ new restaurants, when he came for a haircut…I will miss him!
