Ernest A. Kern
Ernest A. Kern, 94, of S. Whiteoak Street, Kutztown, died February 17, 2005 at 8:49 a.m. in his home. He was the widower of Irene M. (Herman) Kern, who died April 27, 2003. Born September 18, 1910 in the Village of Hancock, Longswamp Township, Berks County, he was the son of the late James Kern and Katie (Rohrbach) Kern-Miller. He was first employed by the former Kutztown Rug Mill as a weaver for 20 years. De then worked as a carpenter and roofer with the former Earl Smith Roofing, Kutztown, for 20 years. He was later employed by Haucks Metal Polishing, Kutztown, for 10 years until retiring in 1990. Survivors: Son, Gerald P. Kern of Kutztown; daughters, Shirley M., wife of Walter C. Delcamp, of Kutztown, and Diane R., wife of Thomas B. Walbert, of Shoemakersville; three sisters, Mamie, widow of Wayne Haas, of Kutztown, and Lillian, widow of Woodrow Bauer, of Allentown, and Sadie Heffner of Alburtis. In addition he is survived by 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Clayton, in 1993, and Larry J., in 1985; and a daughter, Goldie M. Meitzler in 1994. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown.
