George J. McGuinness, 57, of Phillipsburg, N.J., and Greentown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2007, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Rosemary (Kroboth) McGuinness since they married on February 23, 1974. Born in Morristown, N.J., he was a son of Jean (Nasille) McGuinness and the late Vincent McGuinness, who died on February 13, 1992. He was a member of Saint Thomas More-St. Marys Catholic Church, Lake Ariel. He was a 1968 graduate of Morristown High School. George was an avid sportsman. He continued his education at St. Josephs University in Philadelphia, obtaining a B.S. degree in mathematics. In 1983, he attained his M.B.A. degree in finance from Lehigh University, and was a 2002 graduate of Commonfunds Endowment Institute at Harvard School of Business. Since 1998, he was Director of Administration and Finance for The Seeing Eye Inc. of Morristown, N.J. Previously, he was Chief Financial Officer for United Heritage Bank, Edison, N.J., and Growth Financial Corporation, Basking Ridge, N.J. He also served as Branch Manager, Chief Auditor and Director of Information Systems for Morris Savings Bank. His financial career began with Merchants Bank, now Wachovia, in Allentown. Very involved in community affairs, George was the Vice Chairman Elect for the Board of Directors of Concern. In 2006, he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Morristown Rotary Club, where he served as a board officer. He was a volunteer for the Lacawac Sanctuary, assisting in educational and research programs near Lake Wallenpaupack. In the Phillipsburg area, he previously was a band parent, fund raiser and swim meet official. Survivors: Wife; mother; son, Matthew M. at home; sister, Karlene Leahey and her husband Michael; brothers, Michael and his wife Tai, Vincent and his wife Andrea Saxon-McGuinness, Glenn and his wife Cindy, John and his wife Barbara, Mark and his wife Beth; godson, Mark Leahey; a host of nieces and nephews; in-laws, Rosemarie and Frank Kroboth; sister-in-law, Francine Miranda and her husband Samuel; brother-in-law, Barry Kroboth and his wife Christy. Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007, in Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 618 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall, located one block south of the Fullerton Avenue exit of Route 22, with Father Eric R. Arnout as Celebrant. His viewings will be after 6 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007, in Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, which is located directly across the street from the church, and after 9 a.m. Friday in the church foyer. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, Upper Macungie Township. Contributions: Are strongly suggested to Concern-Star Fund, 1 W.
