Over holiday dinner with friends this week, I described the impact Greg had on me as a friend and colleague. They all agreed he sounded like a wonderful person and such a sad loss for so many of us. I miss him still but his memory will always be with me.

I was friends with Greg in junior high in the Bronx back in 1982. We used to play video games, go to McDonalds and have chicken McNuggets :) and I remember how nice he was then and how intelligently he spoke - he cared about school just like I did. He popped into my mind today out of nowhere and so I thought I´d look him up only to discover this page dedicated to him. To his family my sincere condolences but I know Greg´s spirit is vibrant and strong and will be felt by all of you when u most need it and maybe when u least expect it . He is with us!

Greg and I shared an office in the basement of Lincoln Hall when we studied our PhD. I am a journal editor, and was looking for people who could read and review a manuscript that just came in. I thought of Greg, that he would be great. Then I looked him up Online, and found out this sad news. Greg was a great guy. That's all I can say. He was a great guy in every sense of the word.

I just learned of Greg's death from Boston College Magazine and just want to say how sorry I am to learn of his passing. My memories of Greg go back to our freshman year of college. It is a privilege to read about his life and see the legacy he has left to so many. That was a side of himself that he tried not to show very often as a college freshman but it was always there. I'm so glad to learn about the man he had become though I'm so sorry for the friends, family and students he left behind at far too young of an age. You have my deepest sympathy.

I am so saddened to read of Greg Dimitriadis' passing. I learned about this shocking news in the GSE newsletter of UB which I receive in Vienna from time to time. He was a wonderful and thoughtful professor, his classes and his books were inspiring. He left too soon, too young. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I was astonished to learn today in the "Boston College Magazine" that Greg Dimitriadis has passed away. My deep sympathy goes to his wife and family. He was my student and we became friends while he was at Boston College. We had both graduated from Fordham Prep and that initial connection was deepened with so many personal and intellectual conversations, especially about Michel Foucault. I am sorry that we lost touch in recent years but my memory of his presence as a young man is very vivid. I am so happy that he found love in life. May this gentle and gracious man rest in peace.

Greg understood us; all of us, in every moment, in every movement, with deep compassion, laughter and forgiveness. He taught me to see beyond the surface, to pay witness to the deeper meanings of life's shortcomings. Too young for this, as he always was.

What else can say? I am still crying. I feel so defeated. I just heard of the terrible news through the UB Alumi Listserv.Professor Dimitriadis was a true teacher at heart. So well read and about nearly everything. So compassionate, so agreeable to be around with. He was my instructor, a member of my dissertation committee, and a friend, and I took all the courses that he taught, even those that were not required for me. He was a sharp and curious mind always eager to learn new things. I remember going out with him in the Elmwood Street restaurants and sharing African culture with him. Greg, I am honestly angry at your premature departure, angry at the fate but helpless. The void is so big. I don't even want to think of it. To the family of this great man, dry up your tears. Your son has done his part in this world. It is unfortunate that he did not stay long with us, but his impact is far reaching. He has touched so many minds and better still, he has shaped so many souls. To Mrs. Dimitriadis and all of us who feel shortchanged and depressed now, we have been privileged enough to get in contact with this superior man. He was great and he stayed simple and compassionate and helpful.May God 's will prevail. Allelulia!

My deepest sympathy to Greg's wife and family. I had the honor and pleasure of working with Greg when I was Associate Dean in the Graduate School of Education at UB. I found him to be an incredibly modest scholar who was always attempting to support and assist those less fortunate than him. He was wise beyond his years and will be missed by me personally and the campus community. Very few were as committed as he to increasing the knowledge and commitment of students to do great things for those around them.

Greg was a wonderful friend of ours in graduate school at the University of Illinois. My wife Gretchen and I, and all of our friends spend many, many fine hours laughing and joking with Greg. Greg always lifted us up. Once when I was upset about something, Greg said, "Dan when I look at you I see somebody who has everything!." He was so right about that, I did have everything and I still do. I'm so grateful to have known Greg, and will always remember him as such a special guy.

Greg D. was a dear, dear friend of mine from graduate school. I met him at UIUC in the mid-90s, and can think of no one more passionate, dedicated, positive, and kind. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

There are few around, whether in the university or outside it, who embody the best of being human. Greg was that Being. I relied on him to always come down on the side of reason and decency, respect and love in all that he did.
I served with him on graduate committees, and I could count on him to not only do the right thing, but also bring light and caring into the process. This is a shock. What a deep loss to our planet and more directly to Greg's family. I am so sorry.

Greg was beloved by the graduate students who manipulated their schedules to secure a seat in his classes which often overflowed into seats that were not intended but were extended, and which he gladly accommodated.
