Howard Siegfried Jr.
Howard David Pete Siegfried Jr., 87, of Palmer Township, Pa., died Thursday, December 22, 2005, in Manor Health Care, Palmer Township, with his children at his side. Born April 20, 1918, in Palmer Township, he was the son of the late Howard D. Sr. and Emily May (Paul) Siegfried. His wife of 63 years, Ethel Elizabeth Ellis, passed away November 5, 2004. He graduated from Easton High School in 1934. He also graduated from Churchmans Business School. He worked for Chipmans Knitting Mill, Keplers Coal Company, Taylor Wharton, Bean Construction, and Binney & Smith Inc., where he worked in various departments before retiring from the payroll department in 1981 with more than 37 years of service. He was one of the fathers who founded the Palmer Township Athletic Association. He served in the Army during World War II in the European theatre. He received two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and the Victory Medal. He qualified as a sharpshooter with rifle and coastal artillery. He was a lifelong member of Arndts Lutheran Church, Forks Township, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent, and a former council member. He and his wife served as sextons of the church for 26 years. He was an avid bowler and was a member of the church bowling team for more than 40 years. He also bowled in the Binney & Smith Mens Bowling League and the Easton Senior Bowling league at Bar Don Lanes. He was a member of the Knights of Malta, Black Knight Commandery No. 109, Easton. He was a member of Brown & Lynch American Legion Post 9, Palmer Township. Survivors: Sons, David R., James F. Sr. and wife Carol, and Richard R. and wife Ruthann, and daughter, Jean L., wife of Dale Ruschman, all of Palmer Township; sisters, Grace E. Pellen of Bangor, Pa., Ruth S., wife of T. Harold Gafford of Allentown, Pa.; grandchildren, James F. Jr., Lisa M. Bowman, Benjamin R., Andrew D., Rebecca L. Ruschman, Robert D. Ruschman, Jennifer L. Nicholas; great-grandsons, Nathan J. Siegfried, Ryan J. Bowman; many nieces and nephews. Siblings, Helen E. Siegfried, Paul R. Siegfried and Mae M. Shafer died earlier. Services: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2005, Arndts Lutheran Church, 1851 Arndt Rd., Forks Township. Call after 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Interment, Arndts Cemetery. Arrangements, George G. Bensing Funeral Home Inc., Moorestown. Contributions: May be made in Petes name to the Memorial Fund of Arndts Lutheran Church.
