On behalf of the Louis E Dieruff Class of 1974 Reunion Committee, we offer our condolences to the Haas & Fattore families.

Tonight we will gather at our 35th Class Reunion at the America on Wheels Museum. We will raise our glass and make a toast to honor Janice and the 29 fellow classmates we have lost since graduation.

We have created a memorial section on our class website (www.louisedieruff74.com) to remember and honor our classmates we lost too soon.

I worked with Jan at Penn Treaty for only a few years but I appreciated her committment to her work as well as her thoughtfulness and sense of humor. She was so proud of her family. She is with the angels.

I was so very sorry to learn that Jan had passed away. She was a member of our breast cancer internet support group and, latterly, because we shared the same name, we had started sending each other the occasional email. Her emails were always supportive, interesting and light-hearted. I shall miss them ....

My thoughts are with all Jan's family at this very sad time. Hopefully treasured memories of her will bring some comfort in the months ahead.

My families thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. My Mom and Dad loved talking with her at soccer games and any other event that Ang and I both participated in. Anytime I was near her she radiated kindness and love. Whenever I had the chance to speak with her she brought peace to my soul and made me see that the best thing to do was look at the brighter side of things. She is the bravest woman I have ever had the privilege to know. I know she is at peace and enjoying her own personal Shangri-la. May the Lord bring peace to your family in knowing you are at peace. Love always from myself and my family.

I met Jan on a bright sunny day at LCCC in 1974. She asked if I wanted to go see a play with her, I agreed and the rest is history. We have been best friends ever since. Jan really has been an inspiration to many people. I always admired how she kept her dignity throughout her long battle with Cancer. Jan was so full of life. In all those years we never really drifted apart we just added our spouses and children to the mix. Thursday night as we were pulling up to the Funeral Parlor there was a rainbow in the sky. I know a rainbow is a convenient (a promise) from God to all living things that he would never again flood the entire earth but I can’t help but wonder if it was also a sign that Jan is healed and at peace. Rest in Peace my best friend!

I'm writing from the UK. Jan was a part of our breast cancer email group here in the UK. Even though we never met Jan will be missed, so much, by all her friends here. Our thoughts are with Jan's family, we know she loved you all so much.

I worked with Jan at PTNA for 9 years. She was such a sweet, kind, warm hearted and thoughtful person. She made you laugh and was always there to help make our lives at PTNA easier. She was one smart cookie. I personally dealt with the loss of my mother to breast cancer and I think this even brought me closer me closer to her as I seen many of my mother’s characteristics in Jan. She was a fighter, strong individual who was determined to keep going, her work ethic was like no other, even in her final days when this illness was taking a toll on her she never complained a day in her life and always asked how you were doing? When in fact we were concerned on how she was doing never mind us. People like Jan give you the strength to keep going, to know that life is what you make of it and it can be a fulfilling one even through the most trying times. This is why I will be forever thankful for having met such a wonderful caring person in my life. God needed an Angel and Jan was the chosen one and for this she will now be free of pain and suffering. Jan, you will be missed!

Angela and family,
Jan was a couragous woman who fought until the end. I am blessed to have all the wonderful memories I do with her. Sitting at church with her, (even while Angela was away at college), going for tea (she introduced me to it), waking up on Easter morning where she made me a little goodie bag (probably robbed from Angela and Mike's things :), playing board games or cards, or watching movies. Jan always accepted me into her house like family. For that I will be forever greatful. Even if it was 12:00 at night and I was having a break down or my car was hit in a parking lot she never turned me away. She was so proud of Angela and Michael. Even if she didn't always have the right words when we would talk about them you could hear it in her voice. She was a wonderful woman who will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for everything Jan. Angela, Alex Michael...you are in my thoughts in prayers, and in my heart always. I love you!

My heart goes out to Betty and the husband and children of Janice ... One can not always understand the reason why some die so young ... Surely her eternal soul is now in the care of the Lord ... And hopefully her father Ken was allowed to greet her as she passed through .

Uncle Alex, Angela and Michael. There isn't a lot one can say at a time like this. No words, no touch, no gesture can fill the special place that Aunt Jan held in each of your hearts. Aunt Jan was a kind, generous, caring and courageous woman and I feel blessed to have had her in my life. May you find comfort in knowing that not only did she touch your lives, but that she in her own special way touched the lives of anyone who knew her. Though Aunt Jan is now in the loving embrace of our Lord, she will continue to inspire us and remain in our hearts. I send you all my love.

I had known Jan for just a short period of time when I was a member of the Whitehall EAC. Immediately she impressed me with her enthusiam, dedication and hard work in this and all that she was involved with, including her wonderful family. The earth has lost a beautiful, beautiful person but now she can inspire us from up above.

I had the pleasure of working with Jan for the past 7 years at PTNA. She gave a good fight the past years with her disease. She never let it get the best of her and she always still gave 100% here at work and in our little family at work. I will deeply miss her.

Although I only worked with Jan at Penn Treaty for a short period of time, I was blessed to get to meet such a courageous and caring person.
I felt a special kinship with Jan as we fought the same Cancer battle. I just wanted to let the family know what an inspiration she was to me and that I will miss her.
Sincerely,

Angela and family, I saw this quote somewhere and I thought it might be nice to think this way...
..."DEATH LEAVES A HEARTACHE NO ONE CAN HEAL,
LOVE LEAVES LIVES A MEMORY NO ONE CAN STEAL"

I am sorry for your loss and I hope if there is anything I can do you will not hesitate to call on me.

To the Fattore Family:

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Jan. We worked indirectly at PTNA for several years.
She was such a cheerful person who had a great outlook on life. We all knew that she had a huge fight ahead of her. Her loss of life, as we know it, is only the beginning of eternal life. May God welcome her with open arms. Rest in knowing that she is no longer suffering and in a much better place. She is in my prayers.....

To The Family,

We will all miss Jan. She was a wonderful lady. She put up more of a fight against her disease than I would have imagined that someone could. Her family meant everything to her. She raised wonderful kids. She knew they were wonderful and she was not afraid to say so. Know that she is in a better place, free from her sufferning.

To the Family of Janice Haas Fattore: I will always remember Janice when I went to Ritter, Harrison Morton and Dieruff H. S. She was always the quiet one in the bunch but always made you laugh. Although, I have not seen Janice in a number of years, I did run into her sister Gail last year at Wegman's, Bethlehem, and she told me how well Janice was doing and that they were both going to walking in the Breast Cancer Walk. Janice, may you rest in peace and remember another buddy of the East Side gang is with you! Bev Tust Schiffer! I'm sure she was waiting for you with open arms! May the memories of Janice find all of you peace and comfort at this time.

I have worked closely with Jan for the last 8 and a half years. She graced me and her other coworkers with a wonderful package of thoroughness, pleasantness, and cheerfulness. Her absence has been sharply felt over the last few months that she was suffering.

But as well as she worked and as valuable as she was here, her pride and love was for her children. She was so proud of Angela's successful trek through schools these last 5 or 6 years. Michael was also very special -- especially as he grew from a kid to a young man. She looked forward to his success in school and knew without a doubt that it would happen. I hope you two never forget how much she was proud of you and how much she really loved you.

I will also miss you, Jan

Sincerely

Please accept our sincere condolences. Jan was a co worker of mine at "First Valley Bank" in Bethlehem and a very good friend. I am so glad that God brought us together . She attended a Sunday night Bible Study class with me and and made afgans for our grandsons. Our grandsons have been praying for her for months and our very sad she is gone- but they are happy she is not sick anyone-- and they know they will see her again in heaven. Praise God!!!
Our hearts go out to the family---we know that Jan will be praying for her family --she always had her family on her mind.
