Our hearts go out to Amy and Mark and their families. Mr. Schalles was a real gentleman, a truly decent man, and a devoted Christian. I recall that his greeting was always accompanied by his sweet smile. My parents, Betty & Bert Mitchell, thought very highly of him and really enjoyed the times they shared with him and wife Betty at Church of Christ Uniting, both admirable people whom I will remember very fondly. Memories of Mr. and Mrs. Schalles will be a blessing.

Bill and Betty Schalles were life long friends of my parents and family. Part of a Kingston “crew” that bravely went off to war in 1942, Bill did it again in 1950; for this he is to be doubly honored. As a child, my father (a WW II bomber pilot) would take my brother and I to Bill’s house where he would regale us with war stories and war memorabilia. Indirectly, it was because of honorable men like these that I was motivated to join the military. The Schalles’ were an inseparable and loving family who embodied all the characteristics of which that generation is written. May God rest his soul.

Well done good soldier.

Dear Amy,

What a lovely obituary for an exceptional man. I don't think there was a Sunday morning that I didn't see your Dad at church even as a tot. I fondly remember him as a kind and friendly man and also your mom as a very sweet lady.
It's always heartbreaking to lose a parent but how fortunate for you and your family to have had him for so long. God bless him and god bless you.

Sincerely, Judy Garrahan
