Joseph J. Dolgos

Joseph J. Dolgos, 89, of Allentown, passed away unexpectedly on October 2, 2021 at home. He was the husband of Iris F. (Mittura) Dolgos. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last March. Joseph was born in Rábagyarmat, Hungary, a son of the late Károly and Rozália (Horvath) Dolgos. He was the owner and operator of the Sports Chalet (Ski and Sail Shop) in Allentown which he established in 1969. He escaped to the United States in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution. Before opening the Sports Chalet, he spent his initial years here finishing his Engineering degree at Penn State, and working as a tool designer at Mack Trucks, and various other machine corporations. He also pursued his hobbies of skiing and sailing initially as a ski instructor at Apple Hill and as a sailing instructor at White Beauty on Lake Wallenpaupack, a place he loved to spend his summers sailing until his passing. He and his wife also spent the winters in Sedona, AZ.

Survivors: Wife; daughters, Nicole D. Fizz of Allentown, Kristin D. and her husband Josh Smith of Allentown, Erica L. Dolgos of Manhattan; grandchildren, Noah J. and Ava J. Fizz, and many nieces and nephews in Hungary.

Services: A Catholic Mass will be held Friday, November 12th at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph the Worker, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield. Friends and family may call 12Noon – 1:00 PM in the church. Arrangements by Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. www.stephensfuneral.com.
