Joe had a good sense of humor. Joe and I were talking inside the station one day, when a man walked in. He looked like a salesman and he asked to see the owner. Without skipping a beat and with a perfectly straight face, Joe told the man that the owner would be there at 7:00 pm. The man said okay and he would come back. Joe was closing that day at 6:00 pm.

Uncle Joe was a wonderful Uncle. Having our dad take us out to his gas station when we were little on a Saturday was so fun. I will miss coming to your house and you showing us your antiques, your trains and our great conversations outside with my dad and you speaking Slovak. . You will be in our hearts forever Uncle Joe.
We love you

I am thankful my family and I had the opportunity to know Joe. He was such a good person. The type of person who was a good example for even best among us.

So many wonderful memories of Uncle Joe!
As a kid visiting from California -one of our first stops coming into Allentown after a long drive was to stop at Joe's service station and get a "chocolate soda".
He always had a twinkle in his eye ready to show us his unique treasures or challenge us kids to hold onto the antique shock machine.
Such a kind and talented man will surely be missed - but his reunion with his sweet wife (Aunt) Claire makes me smile!

One of the best guys I have ever known. One of my favorite memories was during the gas shortage of 1974 when he waived me to the front gas pump and told the long line of angry people behind me that I was a Resident Doctor at the hospital and needed gas to get to work

I never had the pleasure of meeting Joe, but have a deep friendship with his grandson Patrick and his wife Tiffany. Patrick shared many stories with me about his PopPop, a man he admired tremendously and loved beyond description. Patrick would do anything for him, in no small part because Joe always would do anything for Patrick, and Joe's ethics and strengths run strong and live on in Patrick. I too have some of his tomato seeds, and will nurture them in remembrance of a Grandfather's deep devotion to his grandson and family.

Joe,
I'm sorry to learn of your dad's passing. He lived a long and fulfilling life, and you'll always have the memories. My dad enjoyed planting tomatoes too. They should have gotten together.

Joe- we are so sorry for your loss. Allen will always remember driving by your house on the way to work and seeing your Mom and Dad out front working on the landscaping.

Joe was one of my favorite people growing up. I first ran into him when I was working at the Dorneyville Golf Course back in the early 60's. After work I would head to the gas station to see how many free games I could run up on the pinball machine.
He was the best roll model a teenager could have. Always positive, always there for you. He is the first person I talked to when I decided to marry Kathy. I remember his words to this day, "Make sure she's the right one. It will cost you $10 to marry her and $10k to get rid of her." Well, 48 years later -- she's the right one. :-)
I often think of the great times we had at the station.
God Bless you and your family. We love you all, Frank and Kathy

Dear Joe,
Extremely sad to see your Dad and buddy has passed on. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You were the BEST son ever, and showed such dedication and love to your father. Not many children spend quality time with their elder parents. You two were always together. He was so proud of you. Joe had such a huge heart for everyone he met and always had that sparkle in his eye, genuine sweetheart. He was a wonderful neighbor to my Dad and Mom. Wont be the same driving by their old house, I always look over to his house too, but Joe wont be sitting in the driveway/yard,in his chair.
Lots of love and hugs to you,
Deana

Joe was a dear friend of my late father - George Svaby. He was always helpful to me when I would stop for gas while a student at Cedar Crest. His was a life well-lived; a true gentleman.

I met Joe over the topic of tomatoes. He shared precious seeds for the Yugoslavian heirloom tomato plants, a unique variety I continue to grow after nearly 20 years. We compared notes on how the plants were doing in our gardens. Each time I visited Joe, he answered his door with a charming smile and said, "Oh, look who it is...Get in Here! How are you doing? How's everything?" Joe was generous in sharing many gorgeous colors of Canna Lily tubers with me. When I dig them up each fall, storage bags are labeled with his name and the color of the flower... "from Joe Micek, 2004, tall red-orange". Joe gave me a tour of his many musical antiques and collectibles with obvious pride. He spoke wistfully on missing his wife and delivered hyacinths to her gravesite in spring "because they were her favorite". I never knew Joe when he ran the gas station, but I can imagine his customers were loyal and appreciative. I will remember Joe's sparkling blue eyes, his courteous manner and his kind heart. He was a true gentleman. Please accept my deepest sympathy on your family's loss.

I knew Joe well back in the days when I was working at Erie Insurance and Joe had his gas station. He was always willing to help us Erie employees with our company car issues. When the gas shortage hit in the 70's, Joe always managed to supply us Erie guys with gasoline. He was truly a good guy,
