Leonard Hughes, 79, of Orefield, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 in the Hospice Unit of the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Evelyn M. (Henry) Hughes. They were married 25 years when she passed away in 1994. Born in London, England, on September 29, 1931, he was a son of the late Sidney and Christina A. (Cheesley) Hughes. In his youth, Leonard attended Sunday School with the Salvation Army. He was in the British Army Medical Corp. from 1950 to 1952, and with the British Middlesex Regimen from 1953 to 1956. He arrived in the United States on St. Patricks Day, 1956, and became an American citizen in 1976. Mr. Hughes was a spot welder at Spirax Sarco Manufacturing for 38 years before retiring in 1994. He also played on the Spirax Sarco softball team. After retiring, he worked part-time for 3 Men and a Bagel at the Allentown Farmers Market. Leonard was known as Cowboy and was recognized by his western attire. He experienced his dream trip by visiting a ranch in Wyoming. He was a faithful Christian and a servant of God. Survivors: Companion of 16 years, Catherine T. Childs, of Allentown; sisters, Tina Hughes, of Oxnard, CA, Marion Crump and Rita Simpson, both of London, England. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 1335-37 Linden St., Allentown. Call 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home. Sorry for your loss. I worked with Lenny at Sarco. I used to see him at the Schnecksville diner every once in awhile, dressed in that cowboy gear. That was his trademark.

Sorry for your loss. Lenny had been a friend of my husband Chuck when they worked at Sarco. I still have the small bride and groom statues he gave us at our wedding, and I have passed them on to my grandchildren,I told them how I got them and when, he was a delight to be with.....no matter what we do memories are the treasures of our minds never to be forgotten....my prayers bewith you
