Lois Kaercher Obituary

Lois A. Kaercher, 87, originally from Pittsburgh and Bethlehem resident since 1974, passed away on October 10, 2022. Born on November 24, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Mary Josephine (Shelley) and Albert Myers of the Morningside section of Pittsburgh.

Never one to reflect on her own accomplishments, Lois was well educated and an excellent student. She attended Duquesne university as an undergraduate and obtained her master's degree in social work (MSW) from Smith College for Women. Later in life, she completed a second Master's degree in education while working at Lehigh University. Following graduate school, she worked for nearly 15-years as a social worker for Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh before relocating to Bethlehem with her new husband (Charles). Soon after moving to Bethlehem, Lois worked in an administrative role with Lehigh University for nearly 20-years. Lois was a devout Catholic and member of St Simon & Jude Church. She enjoyed attending many church functions in addition to volunteering at Holy Family Manor and playing golf. She was an avid reader and loved scrabble and the game of Mahjong.

She is survived by two step-sons, Michael and David (Leigh) Kaercher; two step-daughters, Mary Duh and Janet Kaercher; and four grandchildren, Erin, Dylan, John Paul and Morgan.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kaercher and her step-son, Terrance (Terry) Kaercher.

Services will be private and scheduled at a later date. Online condolences may be offered at www.connellfuneral.com

Lois was a wonderful, special lady. Her thoughtfulness and positivity attracted a large group of friends that she cherished. I met Lois through my Mother, Helen C. Werkheiser. She always offered to drive Mom to mass, volunteering and meetings. They enjoyed community ethnic festivals and music programs together. We loved having her at our home for picnics or holidays when she was unable to travel home to family. Our deepest sympathy to her family as we mourn her loss. May she rest in eternal peace.

Lois was truly a person who gave of herself in a caring way for others, whether it was volunteering at St. S and J., HFM, or personal transportation.
My mother Helen C. Werkheiser (deceased) was a recipient of Lois's giving.
Our prayers are with you and for Lois's eternal rest.
