What I remember the most is music...the piano in the dining room, the at will music and singing in your home.Choir was important and piano lessons necessary. I know the hymms by heart even now and I adore them. I remember your weekly contributions of time and effort to Glading over the years and your years as a Girl Scout Leader. I consider myself blessed to have been a part of both.
The row house where you made a place for your family and many others to gather over the years, and around the table to eat and to sometimes debate and to share your lives (even though you were not the greatest cook or houskeeper;)... your interest in being a good neighbor and the importance you always placed on education from the time you were very young was proven out when at 57 yr's of age you obtained your teaching degree... and then you finally learned to drive...and lasting as long as you could in the inner city schools you were a teacher-your natural talent.
Your love of craft-sewing wardrobes, handling clay, baking (cinnamon buns etc.), making root beer and grape juice from scratch, growing fresh, unforgettable tomatoes because you nurtured and fed them with eggshells and coffee grounds in your tiny row house patch of a yard...making room for Timmy the wayward dog, participating in sport and teaching it to others- your value consciousness and how you could squeeze the most out of a dollar(filling those test tubes with dimes, nickles and quarters to pay for the vactions to Maine every year was no small feat on your husband's salary and with three children-to continue that feat for all those years is no small thing).
Opening your trunks to allow the girls to play dress-ups with the beautiful ball gowns so as to allow them to be female...always telling the boys who stopped by how brilliant they were, taking care of your husband for all those years...taking care of each other- and traveling the country and the world? to expand your horizons well into your senior years...sharing it all with your children and your grandchildren.... your enthusiasm and gregariousness has touched many lives and will never be forgotten...Rest in peace Aunt Maria ;)
Big Hug,
Diana ;)
