Mark Malkames Obituary

Mark Richard Malkames Esq., passed away quietly at his home in Allentown on Sunday, January 30, 2022. He was 63.

Born in Hazleton, PA, Mark moved to Allentown at a very young age and loved living and working in the Lehigh Valley. He graduated from Salisbury Township High School in 1976 and Ursinus College in 1980. Following closely in his father's (William G.) and brother's (William K.) professional footsteps, he attended and exceled at Delaware Law School, graduating in 1983. He joined his father's practice in Allentown.

Mark was dedicated to the practice of law and had the utmost regard for the profession. He was frequently seen in the office seven days a week, including a few hours of time in the office on holidays. He loved serving clients and their needs. While he practiced in a variety of areas, he was probably best-known for his representation of clients in zoning matters and mobile home park matters and earned praise from colleagues and opposing counsel as being an attorney who was highly skilled, knowledgeable, and prepared.

However, while some might consider him a workaholic, he had many interests outside of work. He loved learning and enjoyed reading textbooks in a wide variety of topics ranging from science to the arts. He was a collector of the work of current artists, enjoyed exercise, participated in the occasional pick-up basketball game, and listened to music with David Bowie being a favorite. Mark was also no stranger to Phillies baseball, not just the major league team, but also the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Reading Fightin Phils, attending many of their games with friends while enjoying a hot dog and beer.

At times, Mark was quiet and reserved, but he was not shy to display his wry sense of humor to many of his friends, family, and colleagues. Mark was a life-long bachelor (married to the law, as he would quip) and is survived by his father, brother, sister Susan and niece and nephews. Those who got to know Mark on a personal or professional level will miss him.

Service: A celebration of Mark's life will be held 7:30 pm. Monday, February 7, 2022 in the Heinzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. Dr. David Charles Smith officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 5:00 – 7:30 pm. Monday in the funeral home. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ursinus College c/o the funeral home, P.O. Box #196, Schnecksville, PA 18078-0196.

Bill,
I am expressing my deepest sorrow about your loss. I have lost 3 of my close friends in less than 30 days from Covid. I have just returned to work this Monday from a two week quarantine. I don't think I have ever been that sick in the last 10 years. I am at your service for anything you need. Please don't hesitate to call me if you need any help. I am sorry I could not attend the service today. I could not take the chance of spreading the virus.

I was shocked and saddened to hear from Mark's Dad William that Mark had passed away and can't even accept that this happened, so can't imagine what the family is going through. Mark always went out of his way to say hello when we stopped by the office. All we can offer is our tears and prayers are with the Malkames family at this time.
