Martha Shigo Obituary

Martha Francisca Morgan Shigo, 87, of Bethlehem passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Martha was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on September 5, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Robert Hammond Morgan and Refugio Morgan.

Martha was a force of nature. She loved cooking and was an exceptional chef and baker; nothing made her happier than cooking for family and friends. Her first years in the United States were spent in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, where she started a family and fell in love with football…Americano. She was an avid sports fan – watching college and professional football, hockey, golf and cheering for her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.

Martha was clever, joyful, independent, quick with a comeback and left a lasting impression on everyone who met her. She had friends and loved ones around the world, most of whom she met through her children. As she was always quick to strike up a conversation, a stranger was never one for long. She ran the counter and kitchen at the Hess's snack bar in Bethlehem; and nearly 20 years after she retired, there was seldom a week that went by that someone didn't mention buying ice cream from her or remembering how kind she was to them.

Martha loved great food and better conversation, enjoyed reading, watching her telenovelas, feeding the birds and squirrels in the backyard and most of all, talking to and spending time with her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jeanne Camille Shigo, John Morgan Shigo and his wife, Maryann, and Amy Elena Hammond Shigo and 3 grandchildren, Rachel Shigo and her husband, Ryan Ferrante, Natalie Drelles and Morgan Shigo.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Amy, sending prayers for peace to you and your family. Sounds like Martha seemed to live a long, full and happy life. Although I only met her once, it sounds like she was quite the spitfire. Peace & love, Melissa, Doug & the boys.

Dick and I always found Martha to be a very loving person and enjoyed knowing the children while they were young and lived on Hopewell Rd. and in Stafore. I haven,t seen Martha in years and have regretted that. Sympathy to all three of you and your families. Froy Thompson
