Mary Saalman Obituary

Mary L. Saalman
Mary L. Saalman, 93, of Mullica Township, N.J., passed away on Monday, July 5, 2004 in Kessler Memorial Hospital, Hammonton, N.J., after a long illness. She was the wife of the late William G. Saalman Jr. Esq., a respected local attorney and was also predeceased by her parents, Rev. George W. and Florence (Ochs) Lutz. Born in Pennsburg, she relocated to Egg Harbor City, N.J., in 1933 following graduation from Douglass College (Rutgers) and later received a masters in education from Glassboro State College (Rowan). Mary was a teacher in the Egg Harbor City, Pleasantville and Mullica Township school systems until her retirement in 1976. She was an active member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Egg Harbor City, where she sand in the choir and was a member of the Womens and Altar guilds. She participated extensively in community and civic activities such as the Egg Harbor City Womens Civic Club, Elwood Parent Teachers Association, and 4-H Clubs of Atlantic County. She was an avid flower arranger and one of her most memorable accomplishments was receiving Best of the Show recognition at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Most of all, she was a wonderful Mom and Grandma, who always went out of her way to help family, friends and students alike. Survivors: Sons and their wives, John and Lee of Longport, N.J., William II and Virginia of Naples, Fla., Robert and Jean of Quakertown, James and Kathy of Galloway Township, N.J.; sister, Katherine Liebig and her husband, John, of Macungie; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. Services: memorial, celebrating Marys life is in the process of being arranged by Atwood-Peterson-OBrien Funeral Home, Egg Harbor. Contributions: In her rememberance may be made to a charity of ones choice.
