How can you sum up someone like Uncle Mick in one paragraph? Impossible, but I will share a few memories. We spent a lot of time with Uncle Mick, Aunt Margie, Bob, Mick and Maryann when I was growing up, since he and my dad (Frank) are brothers. I remember going to their house on Fairview Street very often. The adults would play Jeopardy (I still remember the sound of those clickers) or other games while we kids did our own thing. Uncle Mick was always joking around, and was a fun uncle because of it. He would say and do all sorts of goofy things to make us laugh. Of course as we grew up and began to get into teenage things, he could be strict - I remember the "No MTV" rule at their house and having to be home early when Maryann and I were out together in the evening. (9 PM! - really, Uncle Mick?!) ;-)
Uncle Mick was very generous with his time - once I was an adult he helped my husband and I move into our new house, and even drove down with my dad to help hang a heavy mirror I wanted in my dining room. He was also generous (and funny) in other ways - I remember when I was in my 20's, back in Bethlehem and packing up my grandmother's house. I was in Uncle Mick's truck with him and my dad driving somewhere, when we passed the ice cream man truck. My eyes lit up - even at that age, who doesn't love the ice cream man? Uncle Mick pulled the truck over and we got ice cream, with him joking that he was going to buy his "little niece an ice cream" with that classic laugh of his.
Thanks for all the good times, Uncle Mick. I will miss you, just like we all will. And lots of love and hugs to Maryann, Bob, and their families.
