Hi Sarah:
I am not a blood relative, and you may not even remember me. I am Bruce N Young, the stepson of Minerva's brother, Clifford Charles Merkel.
Sarah, I remember, back in the 50's, on several occasions, you coming to visit with us on our farm in Salisbury Twp, by the Texaco station, on State ave, near Emaus. I remember this bubbly, somewhat older, and taller than me, youthful girl, full of energy, running around the property, often barefoot.
If I recall correctly, one day while romping around behind the gas station and barefoot, you accidentally stepped upon a piece of glass (I'm hoping it wasn't really a rusted nail instead?) and you did some serious damage to your foot. I hope that I got this story right because it is going in my life-story book. Do you recall any of this at all?
I also remember our family coming to visit yours several times at your place along Riverbend Road. A home along the Little Lehigh which I have always adored.
Your uncle Cliff raised me from about 6 years on up. I want you to know that I always respected and admired him for the things he could do, and for the things that he taught me. He was a great step-father to me.
I wanted so much to attend your mom's services today, and to see you again after all these years. But unfortunately I am currently experiencing flu-like symptoms, and I won't be venturing out anytime soon. I don't want to infect anyone else with whatever bug I have gotten. This then is the next best thing I can do.
I'm so glad our paths crossed many years ago.
