Muriel Frank
Muriel I. Frank, 92, of Allentown, died on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Her husband, Attorney Bernard Frank, died on January 21, 2002. Born in Vineland, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Meyer and Rose (Heisen) Levy. She was a member of Temple Beth El, Allentown. A graduate of Allentown High School, class of 1933, Muriel received a bachelor of arts degree in music from the University of Pennsylvania in 1937. An accomplished pianist, she became an accompanist for the University of Pennsylvania Choral Society. When the Philadelphia Orchestra required choral participation, she worked with the Society and conductors of the orchestra, Leopold Stokowski and Eugene Ormandy. After graduation, she opened the Piano Studio and continued to perform publicly. Music was the main stream of her life, having served on the board of Allentown Community Coverts in 1940 and having been on the board of the Community Music School since 1983. She was a life member, board member and founder of the local chapter of Hadassah. She served on the board of Temple Beth El and the board of it Religious School as chairperson of its Library Committee. During her tenure as chair, the library acquired status of an accredited Judaica Library so authorized by the Jewish Book Council of America. She served on the board of the Jewish Family Service for several terms. Muriel served as a volunteer for Head Start, Meals on Wheels and the Lehigh County Blind Association. She was a past member of A.A.U.W., Bnai Brith, American Jewish Congress. She was currently a member of the Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding at Muhlenberg College.Survivors: Daughter, Roberta R. Penn and her husband, Attorney Alan, of Allentown; son, Allan R. Frank and his wife, Carol, of Bryn Mawr; granddaughters, Attorney Dara Penn Newman and her husband, Dr. Andrew, Rhonda Penn Seidman and her husband, Dr. Michael, Adrienne L. Frank and Kimberly R. Frank; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Blake and Sophie Newman, Jenna Seidman; sister, Shirley Plotkin and husband, Dr. Robert; nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Morton R. Levy, in 2008. Services: noon Friday, Temple Beth El, 1305 Springhouse Road, Allentown. Interment in Beth El Memorial Park, Whitehall. To the Penn family. I'm so sorry to learn about Murial's passing. She was a great lady and I was very fond of her. She was always generous and kind to me.
