To the Thomas family. I am sorry for the loss of your precious son. You do not know me, but I lost my 19 year old son in February under similar circumstances. I read your article in the New York Times and was struck by the similarities between our sons. I just wanted to extend my sympathy to you and let you know that I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Your article is important and courageous. The loss of a child is so difficult. Blessings to your family and to your son's friends as well.

Just heard Owen's story on ESPN. My heart is touched deeply by your loss. Please know that Owen's legacy continues to grow as his story touches the hearts of millions! I was brought to tears as I considered my own son away at college and I intend to share Owen's story with other parents so they can be aware of acquired brain injury, and of the challenges college students face as well. May God be with you...

Rev. Kathy Brearley beautifully eulogized my stepfather, Chuck Shannon, three years ago. Her compassionate, kind and heartwarming words made it possible for me to remember this dear man with a smile every spring when the Phillies play baseball. Two months later my daughter, Amanda, died at the age of 27 from cancer. I didn't know Owen, but when I heard of his passing I had to reach out to this kind and wonderful lady and her family. The loss of a child is the worst kind of pain. May you find comfort in your faith, your friends and each other in the months ahead. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I can only echo the thoughts and feelings of so many when I say how deeply we perceive Owen's loss. Owen was one of the most remarkable students I ever had the privilege to teach at PHS. Since he graduated, I have often remembered, and will never forget, what a gifted, mature, dedicated and fun-loving young man he was. He was so full of life, and showed so much promise -- my thoughts and prayers are with you. It was an honor to know him.

Dear Thomas family~
It's hard to understand what you can possibly feel right now. The emotions are overwhelming for us all, let alone his closest friends- you. A person like Owen though is someone you never forget. You should be proud to have raised a person like him. Life is difficult and its ok to grieve. But remembering that he left a story to tell, a good story, should make you so proud of him. I only knew him from 8th grade-graduation, but those were good times. If it wasn't for Owen, school may have sucked at times! :) But remember, God has promised that we will see him again, so this is just a present goodbye, but not a permanent one.(Revelation 21:4 & Psalms 37:10, 11) Please take care and we will be here for you in the years to come....

I had the privilege of playing on several baseball teams with Owen when we were kids. Owen was always filled with a joy and enthusiasm that he effortlessly shared with everyone around him. He inately lifted his teammates' and coaches' spirits. You could not help but emulate his infectious happiness.
I am one of many who will always cherish the memories of playing the sports we love, while being part of a team with Owen.

I had the pleasure of knowing all the Thomas boys when I worked at Schnecksville School, but I got to know Owen most of all since he was a classmate and teammate of my son's at Schnecksville, OMS, and PHS. Watching him grow from a kindergartner to an amazing young man, I was privileged to see how he brightened the lives of so many with his athletic and academic talent, his humor, and most of all - with his compassionate, caring ways. There are so many memories of the red headed little boy with all the energy and spunk from John Travolta in first grade to the Schnecksville Squirmies championship baseball team in fifth grade, to the campfire talks at the Reinerts house during the years at PHS. These memories will always bring a big smile to our faces as we remember Owen and his unique way of touching the hearts of everyone he met. Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you all and will continue to be with you in the days, months, and years to come. We are so, so sorry.

“O” how could we ever forget you…?
We never played a game together; we were never on the same team.
We were simply two of many, who were glad you were on our sons’ team.
We cheered you from the stands, with Tom and Kathy always nearby.
They were just calmly watching their son, Owen, the apple of their eye.
You would light up the ball field with play after play, reminding us all, that we could win on that day.
Truly an inspiration and a leader by example, you would never let us down, just make us all feel so special.
Those treasured memories of our own sons’ high school football days will always include you, as part of some of his best plays.
We were all so glad to have known you, and certainly better off for it.
How could we ever forget you…?
“O” not a chance…..we only wish you had known it.
Our Hearts and Our Prayers
Go Out to Owen Thomas and His Family on This Day.
May God Forever Keep You and Bless You.

Please know that our prayers are with your family and all who shared Owen's life. May God support each of you through today, and always, as you cherish all that Owen was to you.

I remember the night that you all walked off of the field when you lost to Easton in late 2006. You all hung your heads, and most had tears falling and that was a loss. On that night, nobody would have ever imagined that they would ever experience the loss of Owen Thomas...we all have memories and everyone who knew him is devastated. No one knows the struggle that his family is going to endure and from our family to yours, you are in our thoughts, may Owen rest, because he will not be forgotten.

To Owens family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will always cherish the memories I have with Owen. I know he will always be remembered as an outstanding football player, but I will remember Owen for so much more. He was one of my first guy friends in elementary school. He always knew how to light up a room. I truly believe that he took some of the sunshine with him. He was loved by so many. I always remember him for being the louder kid in the class, sometimes even being a little bit of a trouble maker, but the teachers were so in love with him they wouldn't even punish him. I will always see a glimps of him walking around schnecksville with his little dog on a leash, or playing after school with him. Or just the way he brought all of our elementary school plays to life with his huge grin and singing the absolute loudest that he could. Owen was truly a dying breed in men and he will be dearly missed by all. Remember the good times, they will keep you going. Find comfort in knowing he lives just as loudly in your hearts. I know he'll be watching over us as we can look up to the sky for him. May he rest easy, and my deepest sympathies to all of his family and friends.
