Regine, Lisa, Philip,
Yves and I were high school classmates in Port-au-Prince and were soccer teammates playing defense from 1977-1980, i.e., throughout high school.
Whenever we had a game, if Yves was there, I knew that I had my back covered. Yves was that reliable, that consistent even as a teenager.
Away from the soccer field, we studied Latin together along with other school stuff, we were both pests to our teachers and classmates equally.
After high school, we were supposed to go on to law school in Haiti, but as political events would have it, we went to New York and met again at CCNY where we both studied Electrical Engineering. I remember fondly that apartment at West 129 St. that originally Patrick Colimon and I shared for a few months before by chance we bumped into Yves on campus. Because Yves was living at his sister in Long Island, and had a long commute, he decided to move in with us… life became more bearable away from our beloved Haiti…our grades improved…we bought our first car, a blue Toyota Celica, together: Yves took care of car maintenance…he was very good at changing the brakes… We lived like bothers.
After graduation, I stayed in New York, and Yves decided to join the Navy: I was very disturbed by his choice because, at that time, we were at the height of the cold war until he justified his decision to me: ‘Hey brother guy, don’t worry about me. There won’t be any direct war between the US and the USSR because President Reagan and Mr. Gorbachev are too smart to get into that…’’ Brother Yves was right on all counts…
It was around this time also that Yves presented Regine to Patrick and me. We - Patrick and I- immediately understood that Yves was in love with Regine…
As the nineties gave way to the new millennium, while both us got busy with carriers and family and children, we still managed to keep in touch via the cell phone and e-mail.
Brother Yves was very proud of his family: on a regular basis, he would tell me about Phil the lawyer, Lisa’s unforgivable kick, Lisa’s last goal… it feels like just yesterday that we were on the phone talking about Lisa’s ‘little journey’ last winter after a slight injury!!!
The news of that terrible Saturday caught me off guard, I still feel as if I am in a daze for my brother Yves, a friend of more than 35 years, is gone.
So, Regine, Lisa, Philip, accept my condolences for I know that we all have lost in Yves someone so special, someone so devoted to his family and to his friends that my grieving words cannot even attempt to describe.

Regine, Lisa, Philip,
Yves and I were high school classmates in Port-au-Prince. Later on, we were part of a group of City College students who shared an apartment in Harlem. We shared so many good memories. Yves even taught my younger brother how to drive. I always admired Yves' intelligence, common sense, practicality and self-discipline. With his friends he was always true blue sincerity. I will miss him a lot.
I pray that our Lord Jesus keep you strong, comfort you and strengthen your faith.
Take care,
-patrick colimon

Dear Regine, Lisa, and Philip,
I am going to miss working with Pierre as I have been a draftsman that he felt he could turn to if he needed something quick and would ask me to put myself into "fifth gear" to get it done. I will miss his robust laughter when you told a good joke and breaking bread with him on many field trips. He was here for too short of a time but we will remember him always for the time he was here. God bless you all.
