Richard Longenhagen Obituary

Richard Joseph Longenhagen, Sr.
Richard Dick Longenhagen, Sr. of North Catasauqua, went to Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ, Thursday, January 23, 2014. Born February 18, 1934 in Granby, Quebec, Richard was the son of the late John and Marie (Gray) Longenhagen. Richard was the loving and faithful husband of Kathleen Kathy (Harrity) Longenhagen for over 58 years. He was an insurance agent and estate planning advisor with New York Life Insurance Company for nearly 35 years. Prior to that, Richard was the branch manager of Personal Thrift (Kentucky Finance) Company of Allentown. Richard was a wonderful father of seven, grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of four (happily and anxiously expecting his fifth). He was a devout Catholic and lifetime member of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church of North Catasauqua. A proud member of the Viking Band, he graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1951 and attended Penn State University main campus to study music and liberal arts. Dick was a multi-instrumentalist and recording artist playing mostly saxophone, clarinet, piano and drums in various concert, marching, and swing bands in his early lifetime. He loved performing for his family and friends whenever he was able. A long time member of Knights of Columbus of Allentown, former North Catasauqua Boro Councilman, and current President of the Allentown Lions Club, Richard was always supporting and helping others. He was a kind, giving, sharing and intelligent individual, always doing favors or offering his services, often asking nothing in return. He helped with various community events, hosted, funded and performed Christmas Carols for the Allentown Lions Club Childrens Christmas party for years.Dick was a one of kind gentleman and friend to many people in the Lehigh Valley and abroad. He will be missed by his family, community, fellow parishioners and clients. Survivors: In addition to his wife Kathleen, Richard will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Diane Marie Milia (wife of Philip Sr.) of Catasauqua, Lynn Sharon Kindt (wife of Douglas) of Nazareth, and Shelia Dawn Sobeski (wife of Robert) of Chantilly, VA; son, Richard Joseph Jr. of Catasauqua, (daughter-in-law Debora of Kutztown), Marc John (husband to Regina) of Catawissa, Glen Eric (Husband of Patricia) of North Catasauqua, and Greg Kenneth (husband of Liz) of Fort Meyers, FL; his adoring grandchildren, Philip Jr. and Lauren, Allison, Michele and Kristin, Douglas, Katie, Emily, Hailey, Grace and Rachel, Meghan and Madison, Eric and Scott, Liza Jayne and Jack, Bobby, Maggie and Laura.; loving great-grandchildren, Max and Vivian, Ryan and Michael; Richard is also survived by sister, Kathy Proday; and sisters-in-law, Pauline Longenhagen and Jean Longenhagen. Richard is predeceased by brothers, Dr. John B. Longenhagen and Robert G. Longenhagen; and sister, Marie D. Longenhagen. Services: Calling hours Sunday, January 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at ODonnell Funeral Home, North Catasauqua and Monday, January 27, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Catholic Mass beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church, North Catasauqua. Contributions: Contributions can be made to Allentown Lions Club. www.allentownlions.com
