Remembrances are gifts - even as Bob was a gift. I was glad to hear that a special time of remembering Bob will be happening soon.
In my upper left-hand desk drawer, I still have a packet of rubber-band- bound Day-Timers, the last of which is from 2000, when I retired and began keeping track of what was going on thru my I-phone. Call it nostalgia, but that packet also keeps me in touch with my remembrances about Bob and his easy going wisdom and his personal interaction with each of us who shared such a myriad of experiences with him. I cherish a poignant memory of Bob, when in a conversation about many things, he told me that he was going to transfer his church membership from Hope to Cedar UCC, which he said was difficult but that he wanted to spend his worship time with his mother who was well on in age. We both knew this move would undoubtedly mean a change in the times when we would rehash a provocative sermon by Claude Dencler or recall and share some incidents of our own respective spiritual journeys. I treasure those memories, as I know each of you do as you recall your unique recollections.
Bob was a joy to know. He inspired so much in all of us.

So sad to learn of Bob's passing. He was a man I admired and look-up to. During the early 1970's, while working as an air cargo salesman, I called on Bob. We struck up a good rapport. I was an avid user of Day-Timers, and was surprised to see my business card in the card holder used in the next catalogue. It was the card I gave Bob when we first met. Later I worked for Joe Segel, the founder of the Franklin Mint. He told me the story one day that while he was a professor at University of Pennsylvania, he had a calendar he sold to others to be organized - and he sold it to Dorney Printing to raise money to start the Franklin Mint. Small world. Bob and I stayed in touch from time-to-time. Whenever I was faced with a career decision, I would run it passed Bob for his comments. What a gem of a man. I was another one of the people probably no one in his family knew were so positively affected by Bob. RIP my friend.

Dear Hazel and Faye and family,
The description of Bob as someone who would...give the shirt off his back is so apropos. But Bob also gave of what he was as well as what he had. We were privileged to know him both thru Hope United Church of Christ where he was a member for many years and thru the Lehigh Conference of Churches, where his ideas indirectly helped shape our vision. Bob shared his wisdom as well as his substance and was always available for a little brain picking. His gifts were both practical and driven by conviction. He always had time to offer his guidance, adding his special insights to enable half-baked ideas to become viable endeavors.
A special remembrance is when Bob told us that he was going to transfer to Cedar UCC where his mother was already a member so that he could make sure she got there whenever possible. We knew we would really miss the Solomon-like energetic candor he brought to our congregation, but knew it was the kind of decision a good son would make.

Hazel and family, My sympathies go out to all of you. I met Bob through my work at the Wildlands Conservancy and then at DeSales University, too. He was a generous person who will be missed.

My sorrow for the family of Mr. Dorney - an immeasurable loss! In the '80s I worked a year at Daytimers (Temp Svc) and even now, in later years of my life, I am still impressed by the gentle kindness, integrity, and humility of this man, who was our "Big Cheese". I didn't even know who he was at first, when he stopped by my desk and asked, "How do you like it here?" And then, "My door is always open." He was happy with my answer and I was floored that he CARED. He genuinely did. God bless him forever.

Dear Dorney family, It's with great sadness that i write this note of sympathy in the passing of Bob. I worked for Dorney printing/Daytimers from 1972-1998 and have nothing but pleasant memories of Bob. Strolling thru the print shop or bindery several times a week and greeting us as he passed . he leaves a great legacy of kindness and great work ethics. Surely you as his family have lost a truly giant of a man!!Deepest regrets, Marlene Shoemaker
