Hoppes, Sr., Robert E.Robert E. Hoppes, Sr. 91, of Coplay, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital - Allentown Campus. He was the husband of Dorothy D. (Lazarus) Hoppes to whom he was married 70 years last March 25. Born in Washington Township, April 15, 1923, Robert was the son of the late Leon and Helen (Frantz) Hoppes. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with a rank of Sergeant. He was employed as a crane operator at the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 30 years before retiring. He also worked as a self-employed barber from 1962 - 2014 and was a farmer where his duties included driving truck to deliver produce. Robert was a member of the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post # 16, Slatington. He was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs. An avid outdoorsman, he was the co-founder of the Hoppes Deer Camp in Sullivan County, a life member of Grouse Hall and enjoyed playing golf. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Dorothy; children, Robert E. Hoppes, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Coplay, Diane C. Selig of Germansville, Darrell R. Hoppes, Sr. of Coplay, Kevin L. Hoppes and his wife Louise of Portland, OR, Duane L. Hoppes and his wife, Linda of Coplay; brothers, Floyd J. Hoppes and Charles F. Hoppes and his wife, Dorothy both of Slatington; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; two step great granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; predeceased by sisters, Lillian and Violet "Tootie". Services: Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Union U.C.C., 5550 PA Route 873, Neffs, with the Rev. Dr. Patience D. Stevenson officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery.
