Robert Stewart Obituary

MSGT Robert S. Stewart, USAF RET, a.k.a. "The Rebel", passed away on December 1, 2021, after a long illness. He was 91 years old, but he was a jokester, and he would tell you, "I would have been 93, but I was sick for 2 years." He was born in Petersburg, VA on January 20, 1930, to Peyton Russell Stewart, Sr., and Annie Ethel (Culbreath) Stewart. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served proudly and honorably until 1972. His various duty stations included Tripoli, Libya, Nevada, California, Virginia, Italy, Michigan, and Allentown. He was married to Patricia Lee Saunders on October 18, 1951. His hobbies included golf, and trivia. His affinity for trivia resulted in appearances on game shows. Seven Keys in 1960 in Hollywood and Jeopardy in 1971 in New York. During his tenure in Italy, he caddied for Julius Boros in the 1968 golf world cup in Rome. He will be remembered for his quick wit and was always ready with a joke or two. Like his golf advice for guys having a rough game. "Take 2 weeks off,……….. then quit".

He is survived by his wife and four sons, Robert (Janet), Frank, Art (Terri) and Bernard (Dawn) who gave him his greatest blessing, his granddaughter and namesake, Sydney. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Jean Collier of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Peyton Stewart, Jr., and Kenneth Stewart.

Services: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 11th in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown. Call 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Saturday. Patty, Bobby, Frank, Arthur and Bernie, Our sincere condolences to you and your families for the loss of Bob. I have so many memories of visits with our family as I was growing up. Bob loved to be with the family up north and play pinocle to the wee hours of the morning at our house and grandpa and grandma Blackman. And our visits to Virginia were highlights to my life as well. Thanks for the memories. JZ & EZ
