Shirley A. Watson

Shirley A. Watson, 84, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023 while in the care of Moravian Hall Square, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late John A. Watson, Sr. and Lela (Benson) Watson. Shirley was a graduate of Liberty High School. She went on to earn her Bachelors degree from Bennett College and then her Masters degree in Social work from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Shirley worked as a Counselor for most of her life until retiring from her private practice in Bethlehem. She enjoyed traveling and spending summers in Maine. Shirley was a faithful member of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, Bethlehem.

SURVIVORS: She will be lovingly remembered by her longtime friend and companion Ann Machell of Bethlehem as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings Jack Watson, Dr. John A. Watson, Jr., Rev. William B. Waston, Sr., Clarence Watson, Dr. Donald Watson and Louise Haynes.

SERVICES: A Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St James AME Zion Church, 410 Union St, Allentown, PA 18102, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 A.M. until time of the service in the church. Burial will follow at Green Meadow Natural Burial Ground, Fountain Hill. Shirley's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
