Stanley L. Benner, of Hilltown Twp. and formerly of Perkasie, PA, died Friday, January 29, 2010, in the Quakertown Center - Genesis Health Care, Quakertown, PA. He was 83. He was the husband of the late Betty J. (Barndt) Benner who died May 30, 2009. Born in Souderton, PA, he was a son of the late Allen and Sevilla (Long) Benner. Mr. Benner was the caretaker and landscaper for the Heefner Estate for 50 years until retiring in October 2008. Previously, he was employed by the former Royal Pants Factory, Perkasie. He was a member of the civilian Construction Brigade, arriving in Pearl Harbor shortly after December 7, 1941, where he worked on cleaning up the Harbor and assisted in raising the ships. Mr. Benner was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where he served as a Church Usher and Greeter. He was a former member of both the Branch Valley Fish & Game, Perkasie, and the Keelersville Club. An avid landscaper, he loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and going on trips with his family. Survivors: He is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann McGonigal and her husband Henry Harry Jr., of Perkasie, and Judy K. Kendra and her husband Steven, of Hilltown, PA; two sons, Gordon D. Benner and his wife Lilli, of Perkasie, and Michael T. Benner and his wife Dawn, of East Greenville, PA; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Benner and his wife Margaret, of Spinnerstown, PA, and Linford Benner, of Whitehall, PA; and two sisters, Mae Schlemmer and her husband Herman, of Shelly, PA, and Lillian Scheetz, of Quakertown. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Benner. Services: His Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 Old Bethlehem Road, Perkasie, where family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960. Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie.
