Thomas Haycock Obituary

Thomas J. Haycock Jr.
Thomas James Haycock Jr., 85, of Nazareth, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in St. Lukes Hospital, Fountain Hill. Born Sept. 5, 1918, in Parowan, Utah, he was a son of the late Thomas James Sr. and Betsy (Benson) Haycock. His wife, Minnie (Miller), died in February, 2003. He was the assistant director of safeguards for the Atomic Energy Commission, Rockville, Md., until 1972. He then was a consulting engineer for Brookhaven Laboratory, Long Island, N.Y., until 1978. He was a graduate of the University of Utah with a degree in chemical engineering. He was active in the Minsi Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America. At age 71, he hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Nazareth. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Santa Fe, N.M., Masonic Lodge and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and was a Shriner. Survivors: Son, J. Edwin Haycock of Lower Mount Bethel Township; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by sons, Glenn and Robert, a brother and a sister. Services: memorial, 2 p.m. Friday, Reed/Gaffney Funeral Home Inc., 4 Lillian Lane, Johnsonville. No calling hours. Burial, Richmond Cemetery, Washington Township. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, to a charity of choice.
