Timothy Cassidy Obituary

Cassidy, Timothy P.Timothy P. Cassidy, 63, of Bethlehem, died on Tuesday, December 09, 2014. He was born May 5, 1951; son of Helen R. (Knauss) Cassidy of Bethlehem and the late Robert J. Cassidy. Timothy was a 1969 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School where he was a state champion wrestler and later graduated from Princeton University. Timothy began his career as an educator at Parkland High School. He then earned his MFA from The New School in NYC. He taught film and animation at Jersey City State College, NYU, and most recently Passaic County Community College. Tim also took his passion for film outside of the classroom, working as a freelance artist for Sony Corporation and creating digital media for the Black Maria Film Festival. He also wrote and directed two original short comedy films. Tim was a talented harmonica player in bands Swampedelica, and Better Off Dead where he was known as "The Professor." He also enjoyed sitting in with his brother's band, One Way Out. An avid rugby player, Tim played for many years with the Bethlehem Hooligans Rugby Club. Survivors: Tim will be dearly missed by his mother, Helen; brother, Robert J. Cassidy and his wife, Jane of Bethlehem; his two nephews, Sean and Brian and his wife, Amanda and his niece Kate. Tim was a loyal friend. Family and friends enjoyed his sharp wit, sense of humor, easy-going personality, and positive attitude. Services: A visitation will be held at The Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Saturday December 13, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 417 Carlton Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18015. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Black Maria Film & Video Festival, a non-profit film festival that celebrates and promotes the work of innovative media artists. Tim was a close friend as we both wrestled for Beachi and later competed against each other in rugby. We canoed down the Monanacy creek in high school and jumped a very few slow moving trains as well with classmates. Tim as always a staunch friend and talented teacher.

Tim Cassidy was a close high school friend and fellow wrestling teammate. Tim's positive attitude, willingness to help others was a deep part of his character. We later after college played rugby with another classmate - George Yasso, also deceased - and had that sports connection. I will always remember Tim and his positive addition to humanity.

I mistakenly said Richard in my earlier post when I should have said Robert, sorry Rob.

Tim's family,

I'm so sorry to learn of his passing. I only found out just last year, from Carol Tutka. I'm sad that I did not know for two years. I feel extra bad that I never called him like I promised by email.

I worked with Tim at Sony for about 6 years and we sat next to each other at adjacent workstations for most of that time. I went to see him play in his band Better Off Dead and attended the screening of his film. I met Richard at some point. The last I saw Tim, I think, was when we went on the Blues Cruise boat to see Southern Culture on the Skids and he was using crutches at the time. We last communicated by email the year before he passed.

My warmest condolences,

Mary Wallach

Dear Helen, Robert, Jane, Brian, Kate and Sean,

Just wanted you to know that yesterday I lit a candle for Tim. While we didn't speak often, we did exchange birthday and xmas cards. I will always think of him, especially on those days.

Much love, Mary

Tim and I once spent a whole day just sitting and reading the Times when we were in our 20s. I still remember how cozy it was. Wendy

Cassidy Family, please accept my condolences with the passing of Tim. He was a fine man and I wanted him as a teacher after interviewing him at NSD.As usual politics played a role in the decision. He apparently took a a different direction and I am sure he was happy in what he chose. Distance does not allow me to attend his funeral but I will remember him in my prayers. May he RIP
