Walter Marciniak Obituary

Walter F. Marciniak
Walter F. Whitey Marciniak, 68, of Macungie, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2013, with those he loved the most at his bedside. He was born in Old Forge, PA. As a high school football All American, he was quite the all around athlete, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football (where he earned his nickname after Whitey Ford, the famous baseball pitcher). He attended the University of Maryland on a full football scholarship and later played semi-pro for the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. While at Maryland, he met a cheerleader named Betsy, who became his beautiful bride of 46 years. Whitey graduated with a B.S. in Business and worked as a senior sales executive for Xerox Corporation for 35 years before retiring. Whitey will be remembered as a doting husband, father, and a grandfather, affectionately known as Pop Pop. He was an incredible cook and famous for his parmesan potatoes. A longtime member of St. Thomas More Church, he enjoyed playing golf, especially at Wedgewood Golf Course, and had many buddies throughout the area. But most of all he was all about his family. He loved watching all of his children and grandchildren play their sporting events. He was equally proud of his three kids academic and athletic accomplishments. Whitey beamed when he talked about all his kids graduating from college and their individually unique successes as incredible role models in life. Survivors: Whitey will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Betsy; and little dog, Benji; daughters, Kimberly and her husband, Mike, of Maryville, TN and their two children, Miranda and Cody; son, Steve and his wife, Mindy, of Allentown and their three children, Mitchell, Peyton, and Pop Pops littlest angel, Meredith; youngest daughter and basketball legend, Michelle Marciniak and her partner, Beth Brooke, of Bethlehem; sisters, Jean Turowski of Old Forge; and Ann Marie and her husband, John, of Montoursville. Services: Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 1, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., in St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Schantz Funeral Home, 250 Main Street, Emmaus, and on Friday morning, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., in the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery Wescosville. Arrangements are under the direction and care of James Funeral Home, Bethlehem PA. Online condolences may be made at www.jamesfuneralhome.org. Contributions: In memory of Walter, may be made to The Pat Summitt Alzheimers Foundation, 625 Market Street, Suite 1400, Knoxville, TN 37902.

Whitey was a great guy! I enjoyed his friendship at Maryland football games and then for years when he worked for Xerox and Bethlehem Steel was one of his clients and I was in charge of their Printery.

Dear Betsy, Kim, Steve and Michelle,
We are so sad about the passing of Whitey. What a pleasure to have known him throughout the years. He was always so proud of his family and always so interested to hear about Mary Kate and what she was doing in sports and her career. It was great seeing him at Wedgewood last spring enjoying an afternoon with his buddies. Whitey was a wonderful father which was evident when he would talk about his family. Hopefully with the gift of your Faith and time, your sorrow will lessen and your fond memories will grow. Wish we were in town right now to share your sorrow. Our best to the family.
Love,
Mary and Mary Kate Erdman

During Michelle's height of athletic success I remember a reporter saying to Mr. Marciniak, "You must be so proud of your daughter!" Whitey quickly snapped back at him, "I'm SO proud of all my kids."

Dear Betsy and Family.
I first met Whitey, during the fall of 1980, when we were coaching Emmaus youth football. He had a true love and respect for the game and the unique ability to pass on his knowledge to players using encouraging words, kindness and humor.
Over the many years that followed, we would see him and Betsy numerous times at sporting events.
With sincere interest, Whitey would always ask about our children. Then, when we inquired about his, Whitey's face would light up as he updated us on their whereabouts and accomplishments.
We are very sorry for your loss and pray that the many happy memories of Whitey will bring a smile to your face and help you through this difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Rest in Peace Whitey.

Dear Marciniak Family,
Unfortunately when we are young we are not able to express appreciation for the selflessness our adult role models showed us. Your dad was my youth football coach for 2 years. The enthusiasm and kindness he showed me and my teamates has always been remembered. You are all in my thoughts.

Much sadness filled my heart yesterday when I heard of Whiteys passing. We were classmates from grade 1 at St. Michaels thru Old Forge High School Class of 1963 (50 years). Our paths never crossed again after school but some fond old memories have resurfaced since yesterday. I pray that your family will find peace in the Lord knowing he is in a better place and at rest without suffering. Sincerely, Florence Scoda Rieder

My family and I send our deepest sympathies and our most sincere condolence.

As a little kid in the Lehigh Valley, I spent so many days at the ball fields of Macungie with my Father and all of the great Dads of that era, who coached and support so many kids as they grew up playing sports. I fondly remember, Whitey, and can only hope that you find peace in all the great memories of him. We lost my Dad in late 2011, and he is with me every day. I have such fond memories of the innocent days growing up in a simpler time with such great guys like your dad and mine.

I am sorry that I will be out of town this week, but my Mom will do her best to make it to the services.

Dear Steve and Marciniak Family,
I was blessed with knowing your loved one from the bank. He was a longtime customer and what a pleasure he was to know. Very personable and always smiling. I am very sad for your loss. Through Steve working at my branch, I know what a shining star this Father and Husband was to his family. May he rest in peace and memories help heal your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,

My sincere condolences to Betsy and her family. I recall spending a great day together at a U of Maryland football game before Michelle was in high school and numerous lunches with Whitey when he called on me while i was at Bethlehem Steel. I'll never forget the morning he called to let me know that Len Bias had died. He was a great guy and I'm a better man for having known him.
