William Burkit Obituary

William Burkit
William A. Burkit, 72, of Fountain Hill, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. He was the husband of Katie (Aides) Burkit for 56 years. Born in Bethlehem, he was one of eight children, to the late William and Mary (Hankulich) Burkit. Bill honorably served his country in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 187th Infantry, 11th Airborne; and was decorated with the good conduct medal. He was a high voltage lineman for local 1319 for 35 years, retiring in 1998. Bill was an active outdoorsman, whoenjoyed hunting and fly fishing. He was also an avid gardener who loved his fig trees and cacti. He was one of the original founding members of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited. In his retirement, Bill spent his time helping his son, Mark, at his business, Specialty Cars of Allentown. Survivors: In addition to his loving wife Katie; are son, Mark A. Burkit and wife Lynn of Danielsville; grandchildren, Jessica, Jocelyn, Matthew, Erica, William, and Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Haley; sisters, Dolores and Maryann of Washington; brothers, John, Jerry, Ronald, and Steve all of Bethlehem. He was predeceased by his sons, Edward and Nathan; and his brother, Edward. Services: Friends and family may call on Sunday, November 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway Fountain Hill, followed by a 3:30 p.m. Celebration of Life at the Barnhouse Village, 7401 Airport Rd., Bath, PA 18014. Well they definately broke the mold with you pappy. I will forever cherish our talks and all the wisdom you shared. We never got to finish my lesson on my cacti, but I know you'll be with me & guide me in the right direction. Haley will hear lots of stories about her pappy & how she was his little munchkin.
