JAMES HEROLD Obituary
JAMES HEROLD
12/06/1938 - 06/10/2025
James Martin Herold, Jim Herold was the youngest of the family, joining parents Martin and Bertha and big sister Marie and big brother Fred at the family ranch in Parma, Id. He was the only one not born at home and had to be imported from Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario.
His youth was spent helping on the ranch and being a cowboy when he wasn't penned up in school. After graduating from Parma H.S. he partnered with his brother Fred and was running the ranch at Ola as part of the Herold Brothers Livestock Company. About this time a friend invited him to a dance and introduced him to a blue-eyed blonde from Emmett named Norma Griffith. He was hooked and he and Norma married in her Mother's backyard on June 11, 1961.
The Ola years were busy with Son David born in 1962 and daughter Anna in 1965. In between they milked cows, raised beef cattle, pigs and chickens. Herding cows to the Grazing Association ranch in High Valley or to the leased ranch on Third Fork was always exciting.
The Ola ranch sold in 1969 and the family relocated to McCall, ID. Jim shifted gears from pushing cows to build A-1 Painting, Red Barn Leathers and Bare Foot Moccasin Company. In 1975 the family moved to acreage west of Lakefork and the horses, cows and other critters re-joined the Herold Funny Farm.
Jim was a member of the Jaycee's, Elks Club and Board of Directors for the Valley County Little Britches Rodeo.
In 1980 Jim took a job with the Valley County Road and Bridge Department as an equipment operator. For the next 20 years he cleared the roads in winter and smoothed them in the summer deftly commanding a series of Caterpillar Road Graders.
In 2005 Jim and Norma moved to a beautiful property where Mann's Creek joins the Weiser River. In 2009 Jim fulfilled a long time ambition and drew a moose tag for the eastern side of the state. He and Norma scouted the unit and a week later David and Anna accompanied him on his successful hunt!
Memory issues began to trouble him and Norma became more and more of a caregiver. Her passing in November of 2024 was very difficult. It was time to move once more, but this time without his beloved Norma or his animals and livestock.
On June 10, 2025 he slipped away to meet Norma. It was the day before what would have been their 64th wedding anniversary.
Jim is survived by his son David Herold (Laurie); daughter Anna Clark (Kelly); granddaughters Jacqueline, Autumn and Madeline Herold and Ellyn Clark: and beloved nephews and nieces on both the Griffith and Herold sides.
Our family would like to express out deepest gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at The Cottages of Payette. You folks are awesome.
There will be a Celebration of Life for both Jim and Norma at Wild Rose Park, 3871 E. Black Canyon Highway, Emmett ID. on September 6th at 1:00. Please bring a side dish and your favorite beverage.
