Charlotte McKinney Obituary

Charlotte McKinney MARION Charlotte Harris McKinney, 72, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Autumn Care of Marion, following an extended illness. Charlotte fought her illness courageously yet always managed to maintain a positive disposition and keep a smile on her face. A native of McDowell County, she was born Aug. 16, 1939 to the late Joshua Hall Harris and Mamie Lawing Harris. She had many interests, including Country and Gospel music, a love for Elvis music, particularly as done by Elvis impersonator, Eddie Miles, and a love for the Atlanta Braves baseball team. Charlotte held a number of positions during her career. She was the secretary for Attorney W. R. Chambers for many years and later worked at McDowell Savings & Loan. She then became the church secretary at First Baptist Church of Marion, where she was a member, and from which she retired. She was a delightful lady and a friend to many and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Hemphill and husband, Britt, of Marion; four nephews, Dr. Gregory Plemmons, of Nashville, Tenn., Charles and Bryan Harris, both of Marion and David Harris, of Louisiana; and a niece, Jane Harris, of Marion. A funeral service will be held today, Friday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Scott Hagaman and the Rev. Terry Childers officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Department at 99 N. Main St., Marion, NC 28752, or to Hospice of McDowell County at 575 Airport Rd., Marion, NC 28752. Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. An online register is available under "Obituaries" at westmoreland funeralhome.com.
