Max Carpenter Obituary

Max Carpenter

On Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at 2:57 p.m., Max Carpenter, son of the late Schyler and Bertie Carpenter, gained his wings and went home to be with his heavenly family. During his final hours, God granted him the gift of being at home with friends and family.

Waiting on Max in Heaven along with his mother and father were his brothers and sisters, Schyler "Bud" Carpenter, Edna Aldridge, Lloyd Carpenter, Arnold Carpenter, Sam Carpenter, Carolyn Weller, Sue Ballew, Deveta Ruth Carpenter, Frank Carpenter, Jim Carpenter, Lake Carpenter, Frances Thompson, Ellen Carpenter; and many more family members and friends celebrating his home-coming.

Left here to cherish his memory are his wife, Ann Carpenter; daughter, Linda Shirlen and husband, Vaughn, (Old Fort); grandsons, Isaiah Shirlen (Texas), Brian Shirlen (Marion), Skylar Shirlen (Raleigh); great-grandson, Rhett Shirlen (Texas); brother, Russell Carpenter (Hickory); and numerous friends whom he loved like family.

He was a friend to everyone, especially the ones in his beloved North Cove community. He did not let a day go by without checking on everyone and helping those he loved. If you were his friend or family, he let you know he cared and knew exactly when to call. He was never afraid to share his opinion or his knowledge, even if you didn't ask for it. If you met him, he left his mark. He loved working in the hayfields with Terry English, visiting people in his community, and spending time with his family. He was a great man who will be missed by all who knew him. Max said he had lived a good life and was ready to go home.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday Jan. 6, 2021, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. At a later time, his immediate family will spread his ashes over the hills of the land he was proud to own and walk with his wife, Ann.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in honor of Max be given to CarePartners Hospice of McDowell County, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, who provide aid to those in their time of need. The family appreciates the Hospice workers who were so kind and empathetic. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, EMTs, friends, and all who showed support and kindness.
