Bettie Hudson Obituary

Bettie Ruth Cox Hudson, 85, of Marietta, died Thursday, July 14, 2022. Memorial Service will be 1:00p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Crowell Brothers in Peachtree Corners with Dr. Leslie Holmes officiating.

Mrs. Hudson, a homemaker, was born in Chamblee, GA, on December 15, 1936, to the late Guy Herman Cox, Sr. and the late Beulah Estelle Sexton Cox. Bettie was the sixth of seven children. She graduated from Chamblee High School in 1955, where she was a member of the Future Homemakers of America and served as Secretary her sophomore year. She played basketball and fencing in high school and was a cheerleader; she was also a member of the Chamblee Glee Club. Bettie was voted "Best Looking Girl' her junior year.

She worked as a key punch operator for Avon after her high school graduation and was a model for Davison's, Joan's Dress Shop, and Nadine's Bridal Formal Wear. Bettie was a member of the Rainbow for Girls in Chamblee. She was a long-time volunteer for Victim Witness in Cobb County, winning several service awards over the years. Prior to that, she was an active participant and volunteer with the College Park chapter of the Jaycees. She was a member of the Marietta Country Club and loved playing golf, an activity she shared with her beloved husband, Bob. In addition to being an avid golfer, she often volunteered to score at golf tournaments. She loved playing bridge and was a member of several bridge groups in the area.

One of her favorite things was entertaining her family and friends and hosting holiday meals and events. She was a wonderful cook and was known for many of the great meals she served. She always welcomed to her table the various friends her children were constantly bringing home, referring to them as her "yard children." Other hobbies included traveling, reading, watching birds from her front porch, flower arranging, spending time with loved ones at their beach house at Harbor Island, SC, cheering on the Braves, water skiing on Lake Alatoona, and snow skiing at various locales.

Mrs. Hudson was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert "Bob" Jefferies Hudson, and by two brothers and four sisters. Bettie leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Karen "Kari' Linda Hudson Callaway of Thomson, and Elizabeth "Beth" Shannon Hudson of Alpharetta; son, Michael Jefferies Hudson of Peachtree Corners; four grandchildren, Haley (Brandon) Barton Meyer of Smyrna, Katherine India Barton of Marietta, India Cathey Callaway of Alpharetta, and Grace Jefferies Callaway of Thomson, as well as several nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Hudson to any charity or church of your choice. A celebration of Mrs. Hudson's life will be held at Crowell Brothers in Peachtree Corners on August 20, 2022, with a private graveside service at 11:00a.m., visitation at 12:00p.m., and service at 1:00p.m. Dr. Leslie Holmes from Thomson First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
