Blake Settlemyer Obituary

It is with immense sadness coupled with a faithful joy that I announce the departure to Heaven of my mother, Blake Long Settlemyer. Born on March 27, 1938, Blake was 84 years old when she went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 4, 2022. Waiting to join Blake are her son, Arthur Frank Settlemyer, III, daughter-in-law, Robyn Poole Settlemyer, her two grandsons, Charles Phillip Settlemyer, II, and Robert Wells Settlemyer, as well as her sister-in-law, Diane Long, niece Connie Moriarty and, her brother, Lawrence Long. Welcoming her to Heaven was her husband, Phil Settlemyer, her parents, Moody and Mable Long, her brother, Allen Long, her grandson, Franklin Seth Settlemyer, and her sister-in-law, Helen Long.

Born and raised in Apex, North Carolina, Blake attended Meredith College where she received a degree in history and a minor in music. While in college, Blake met her husband, Phil, who attended nearby North Carolina State University. Phil was born and raised in nearby Kannapolis, North Carolina. Phil and Blake were married on January 16, 1959. After their honeymoon, Phil returned to work at Lockheed, and Blake returned to finish college later that spring. Upon her graduation, Blake joined Phil in Marietta, Georgia where they lived their entire adult life until moving to Macon, Georgia to be near their son.

During her life, Blake was not only a loving wife and mother, but also an accomplished pianist and organist, teacher, real estate salesman, interior decorator, gourmet cook, seamstress, artist, administrator with Kennestone Hospital, a member of the Marietta City School Board, a member of the First United Baptist Church and an avid traveler to Rome, Italy.

Known for her beauty, talent and elegance, Blake was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and friend to all who met her.

I am saddened to hear of Mrs. Settlemyer passing. She taught me at St Stephens School for Boys in Alexandria Virginia when I was in 5th grade in 1970. She was a bright light in a boys life and loved her job. Always smiling and motherly, she was eager to teach us and cared a lot about her students. She was will be sadly missed. My condolences to her family.

My best to you and the Family, Frank. I know of the pain you´re feeling. Twisted by knowing she is free of the physical pain she endured while sorrowful by knowing you can´t see her again until we ourselves join her in heaven. Find comfort in remembering the joyful and fun times here in Marietta and Macon. May God bless the family with peace.
