Marilynn Carol Simms Palmer

On June 19th, 2025, Marilynn Carol Simms Palmer, 77, of Marietta, Georgia passed away peacefully after her battle with cancer. As she did in life, Carol handled her death with grace and dignity. Carol is an Atlanta native and attended North Fulton High School and then went on to University of West Georgia. Carol was a loving mother and wife.

She survived her husband Mark A. Palmer's passing in 2015. Carol was an avid tennis player and was part of the Atlanta Lawn and Tennis Association where she was a captain of her team for many years. Carol loved travel, history, genealogy and serving her country and community. Carol Palmer served the Georgia State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, with distinction as the Service to America Committee Chair and as Vice Chair of the America 250! Committee. At the chapter level, she was a dedicated officer of the Fielding Lewis Chapter, NSDAR, serving as both Recording Secretary and Historian. As the chapter's Public Relations Chair, Carol authored and published numerous articles in the Marietta Daily Journal, raising awareness of the chapter's work in the community. She also played a leading role in securing proclamations from Mayor Tumlin and the Cobb County Board of Commissioner. One of her most lasting contributions was her key involvement in the restoration and placement of the commemorative plaque at the historic Dobbins Chapel on Dobbins Air Force Base.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Cheri Palmer (Justin) Forand and her son Alan Kenneth Palmer. She is also survived by her grandchildren Mark Chandler (Caitlin) Palmer, Sydney Anne Palmer, Brooke Victoria Forand, Austyn Kennedy Palmer and Kayla Lee Forand.

Funeral services were 2:00 PM Monday June 23rd at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta.
