Tony D. Calhoun

Tony D. Calhoun, age 71, of Acworth, Georgia, a humble and kind man, went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Will Calhoun and Vesta Mae Medders Calhoun, his sister Wanda Calhoun Sizemore, and his brother-in-law Herbert Sizemore. Tony is survived by his devoted wife, Jean Lathem Calhoun; his beloved children, William Garrett Calhoun and Lauren Elizabeth Calhoun; his daughter-in-law, Rachel Calhoun; and his three treasured grandchildren, Emma Lee Calhoun, William Cooper Calhoun, and Davis Garrett Calhoun. Born and raised in Sylvester, Georgia, Tony lived a life defined by kindness, integrity, and deep devotion-to his family, his community, and his calling in the practice of law. A graduate of Cumberland School of Law, he built a long and fulfilling career in defense litigation and criminal law, where he was known for his fairness, compassion, and strong moral compass. If you knew Tony, you knew he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone-especially if it involved The University of Georgia's football team. He was a proud fan of The Georgia Bulldawgs and never missed a chance to talk about the team he loved so dearly. Tony's family was his greatest joy. He was a devoted husband, father, and "Shug" (Grandfather). A steady provider, and a loyal friend to many. He had a special heart for those who needed a defender and believed deeply in giving everyone a fair chance at life. Tony had been a faithful attendee of The First Baptist Church of Woodstock since 1998. A funeral service will be held at Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025, with visitation beginning one hour prior. A graveside service will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park. Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Marietta Country Club, where family and friends will honor Tony by cheering on the Dawgs during his favorite game of the year-Georgia vs. Florida. Tony's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his unwavering devotion to family and the joy he brought to every life he touched. Floral tributes are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation in Tony's honor.
