Adeline Stepan Briggs

Addie was born in Leigh, Nebraska to James and Anna Stepan. She was the second child of four children and was raised on the family farm. She had many fond memories of her life on the farm. She loved to tell stories of digging through the snow and helping her mom prepare the daily meals.
Addie moved to California during World War II to seek employment. She worked as a waitress in San Pablo during the war. While working there she met her future husband Cyril Briggs. After the War they moved back to the Midwest to be closer to family but returned to California in the early 1950's and remained in Merced for the rest of her life. After raising her children she went back to work as a waitress. She worked at the Rice Bowl for 30 plus years and loved her job. If you were a regular customer you were like family. She knew what you probably wanted and how it needed to be prepared. Addie was often invited to many of her customers family functions.
Addie is survived by her four children, Joy Durso (John), Gloria Logan, Jim Briggs (Margie), Sandy Wade (Steven), her 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Addie is also survived by her sisters Libby Mastney and Elsie Jonas of Clarkson, Nebraska. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Addie looked forward to calling her sisters everyday and getting the Nebraska news. Addie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim, son-in-law Bobby Logan and grandaughter, Lori Logan.
Our Family would like to extend special thanks to the Staff at Anberry for the many years of care and friendship given to Addie. She looked forward to the activities each day and seeing her special CNA's and Staff. Also thanks to Whitton Family Funeral Service and Staff.
