Amelia Pira Obituary
January 7, 1929 - October 25, 2017
Mimi Pira passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 25th with her family by her side at the age of 88. Mimi was the eldest daughter of three girls from John and Theresa D'Alonzo. Born in Akron, Ohio, Mimi and her family moved to Merced in 1937. She graduated from Merced High School in 1946, and then attended Fresno State University. She met her husband Jack Pira on a train and they married in 1948. Mimi and Jack enjoyed 69 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised two sons John and Robert Pira. They also owned two Motels, The Cozy Motel in Merced, and The Villa Motel in Monterey. Mimi was an avid golfer, and Devoted much of her time to her beloved friends. Mimi enjoyed early retirement and devoted her later years to volunteer work with the Salvation Army, Living Well Cafe "Cherish", and much more. She is survived by her husband Jack 97, her two sons, two sisters, and three grandchildren, Johnathan Pira of S.F., as well as Jacquelyn and Stephanie Pira of Merced. With a smile that lit up every room she walked into, Mimi will be sincerely missed and loved forever. Mimi was full of generosity, donations can be made in her memory to Hinds Hospice and Living Well Cafe. A celebration of life will be held for Mimi at a later date. Details to follow.

Jack, John, Robert & Families: It is with a heavy heart that I write this as I am so very sorry to hear of Mimi's passing. We had the pleasure of meeting Mimi when our mother, Maria Strength shared a room with her at Anberry approx. 13 years ago. They quickly became great friends & they would regularly visit each other and Mimi would share her wonderful holiday jello salad annually. She was one of the most beautiful people we know, inside & out & her presence would light up a room. She will be greatly missed. Please know we have you all in prayer at this difficult time. I loved sitting next to Mimi at mangia,mangia. She had a great smile. I will miss her very much. May she rest in peace. May all of her family find peace in their hearts. She loved her family, she talked about them all the time. My deepest sympathy.
