Billie Edwards, longtime Atwater resident, died on November 2nd, along with her sister, Carolyn Rose, after being struck by a car while out for their morning walk. Born on Jan. 30, 1949, Billie was 73. She was born and raised in Merced, and the surrounding areas, to Lawrence and Margie Journey. In high school she met Bob Edwards, and two years later they were married. Billie told her best friends, after meeting Bob, that she knew he was going to be the love of her life, and that she would marry him. The couple moved to the east coast where Bob was stationed in the US Marine Corps. Later, after returning to California the couple began their life in the Bay Area, raising their two children, Rob and Michelle. Billie ran a successful day care center out of their home in Union City. In 1993 the couple moved back to Atwater to be close to family. Billie worked as a quality control supervisor for a company that produced fiber optics for eye surgery for many years, and retired in 2014. Since her retirement, Billie spent her time devoted to caring for her family.
Billie loved spending time with her family, camping, going to concerts, planning and having holiday get togethers, and doing her search-a-word puzzles. She was an avid reader, and her favorite TV show was Blue Bloods. Billie loved teasing with her family, and had an amazing sense of humor.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Margie Journey, her sister Delores Merritt, and her daughter Melanie Faye Edwards. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bob Edwards of Atwater, son Rob Edwards (Donna Franklin) of Merced, daughter Michelle Elissiry of San Ramon, grandchildren Melanie Edwards (Jeremy Costilla) of Modesto, Jeremy Edwards (Emily Sutphin) of Merced, Wyatt Franklin of Merced, and Nicole Elissiry (Sam Kashefi) of San Ramon, Connor Elissiry of San Ramon, her sister Nancy Journey of Atwater, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Billie will be missed by many close friends she made throughout her life.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 18th at 12:00pm at the Liberty Fellowship Church at 1900 Shafer Road in Atwater. Burial will follow at the Winton Cemetery at 7651 Almond Ave, Winton. A reception will be held directly after funeral and burial services in the hall of the Liberty Fellowship Church.
