George Jones Obituary

George Chilton Jones
May 31, 1937 - December 15, 2022
Snelling, California - Born to parents George Chilton Jones and Louise Turner Jones in Merced, California. At an early age George, his parents and older sister Nancy moved to Anchorage, Alaska, during the early years of World War II. In 1945, the log cabin that his father built burned down and the family returned to California. George grew up and graduated from Merced High School in 1955, where he proceeded to join the United States Marine Corp. In 1959, he went to Marine Guard Embassy School and was first posted to the Embassy in Accra, Ghana. His second posting was Beirut, Lebanon. Following a two-year tour, he took leave with two other Marines and with an Embassy driver drove to Damascus, Jericho, Jordan, and Jerusalem. This pilgrimage was fascinating as they admired all religious and historical sites. This was a highlight of his life. George was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp at El Toro Airbase in 1961. He married Louise Rosasco and had two sons, George C. Jones III (Trey) and Steven J. Jones. He graduated
from Chico State in 1966 and later attended the American Institute of Foreign Trade. He was employed by Carnation Internal and took his first out-of-country job was Durango, Mexico for two years. He transferred to Arequipa, Peru for three years then transferred to Manila, Philippines for six years. Unfortunately, the travel took a toll, and he and Louise parted ways. Very shortly after the company was sold to Nestle. All upper management was released with severance and quickly took a job with OD Dairies as Production Manager at the 8th Army Base
in Seoul Korea for two years. He returned to the United States and went to King Salmon, Alaska as a DoD Manager for the next five years. Following that adventure, he got his truck driver's license and drove for various companies for the next 10 years. Little did he know that he would embark on his greatest
adventure with his nephew Martin A. Meister and started a partnership with him in 2004 when they bought the Merced River Development Company. They built a convenience store, RV car wash, boat storage, RV parking lot and office building. He was still working with Martin at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by parents, his sons Trey and Steven. Although he is survived by various nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no funeral services and he will have a private burial in his families plot in Merced on the 26th of January at 1:00 pm and a calibration of life to follow at 3:00pm in Snelling at his favorite bar.
