Joe Moreno Obituary

It is with great heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of the Patriarch of "Moe City" Joe Moe, age 72, a resident of Merced passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 with his family by his side.
He was born April 7, 1941 to George and Angela Moreno. Joe united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Teresa Garcia on February 6, 1960 in Merced. From this union of 54 years they were blessed with five children.
Joe Moreno was a hard working man who was employed with Merced City Schools. He was a head custodian for Tenaya Middle School for over 35 years. He was an avid fisherman, camper and loved his game of golf. Joe Moe was a lifetime member of Club Mercedes.
Dad was always there for our family, but also there for friends and our community and never asked for nothing in return. If he taught us anything it would be to "Live A Good Life," "Love Everyone Who Comes Your Way," and "Laugh Your Butt Off" "IKE-IKE-IKE!" "Doesn't matter what you carry in your pocket, my riches come from this, "MY FAMILY," "I'm very rich." IKE-IKE-IKE - Papa Joe
He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Moreno, his daughter, Andrea Marie Lopez, his son, Joseph Manuel Moreno Jr. (Annette), Daughters: Cynthia T. Gutierrez (Mike), Georgette Michelle Moreno, Virginia Renee Moreno and Elaine Ornelas; a brother, Santiago Moreno; sisters: Emilia Casas, Angela Matsen and Tomasita Valdez; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, three brothers and one sister.
Joe Moe's legacy will live on forever at Moe City and within his loved ones. "The Lord is Just and Loves Just deeds; The upright shall see his face." Psalms 11:7
A visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home, 901 W. Main Street in Merced. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 459 W. 21st Street in Merced. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1220 M Street in Merced.

I would just like to express my sincerest condolences to the Moreno Family. It has been my honor to call Joe Moe a friend for the years I have known him. He was a no nonsense, no BS kind of guy that kew the true definition of friendship and family. He taught me so much about cooking, Club Mercedes, and the rich history of the families here in Merced. Most of all he taught me to love everyone and have a good time. Joe Moe, I will miss you my brother! May you Rest in Peace!

Joe Moe was quite a guy...I don't know how long the I knew him. When he and Harvey were in the kicthen at the club, the food was to die for on Wednesday night. He always had time to talk to me and shoot the bull. I remember that I sold him a new Chevrolet S-10 pickup. ..he told that he wanted Mo's Ride painted on it, which I did. He will be missed. ..everytime I would go to the club, he was there. A great guy and a better friend. My prayers to out to his family. Geech.

When I opened the newspaper to the obituaries yesterday I had a sad feeling as I read about the kindest, funniest man I grew to know while attending Tenaya Middle school has gone. Although I'm nearly 40 years now, I will remember you forever. You always walked around campus happy and friendly to all the kids. It makes me realize that kindness to others really does go a long way. Thank you.

I remember working for Joe Moe as a young teenager at Tenaya Middle School for a summer work program. He had me doing all kinds of stuff but I did't mind. I would love to listen to some of stories when we would take a break. Fair Winds and Following Seas Joe Moe, and like DizzyLizzy said behave yourself up there.

"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
