Merced, California - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Michael "Mike" Propes, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who left us on July 9, 2024 at the age of 83. Born on August 11, 1940, Mike lived a life full of dedication and love, making a profound impact on everyone who knew him.
Mike was the devoted husband of Susan Lozito Propes for 60 wonderful years, and together they raised four children. Mike's guidance, dedication and unwavering love helped shape his children into the individuals they are today. Everything Mike did was for his family.
After completing his enlistment in the U.S. Navy, Mike worked for over 35 years at Xerox, where he was known for his expertise and ability to fix anything. Mike had an incredible work ethic and was greatly respected among his colleagues. He was a friend to all, and was always ready to help others.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike spent countless enjoyable hours working in his garden, creating many happy memories with his family. He was actively involved in his kid's lives, coaching teams and becoming a local boy scout leader in order to spend time with them. Mike is survived by his wife Susan, his children Dr. Von Goodin and his wife Jill, Dr. Andy Propes and his wife Bliss, Toni Propes, and Ali Colacito and her husband Tony. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mike's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. Rest in Peace, Pop. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

I was a young out of control teenage girl living in a group hm in Madera back in 1997. Mike was the nicest n calmest person ever!!! I never hesitated to surprise him n walk the trash down the long drive way for him! The one story I remember is when he was cutting the grass for his parents in Texas n I guess he was on a john dear but his mom calls out to her husband n said," awww paw...look at Mikey on his tractor!" We laughed so hard! He was quiet man but with a big smile. Every so often u would see Susan place her hand across his arm so sweetly. I'm very sad to hear he passed. He looks just like Austin in that photo!!! I send my love to Susan, Ali, Toni, Andrew and Von. Ali was my counselor at the group hm n she made sure we new Mike's rule...NEVER leave the house without shoes!!!

The ONLY mistake God made when he completed His creation process, was that He decided that ALL life, no matter the species, must end at some point! 'Mike', one of the most beautiful people I have ever known, should have been excluded from that directive! If there was anyone more deserving of the positive implications of being a Benjamin Button, I'm all ears! My SINCEREST condolences to Susan, and all family and friends that knew Mike. Rest in Peace, old friend!!!

I worked with Mike in Fresno and found him to be a great source of information. Mike was instrumental in raising money to afford me to return to MN for sister´s son´s funeral. Just a very nice man. RIP
