Jose Olvera Obituary

Jose Castulo Aguilar Olvera, born to Roberto and Leonor Olvera in Mexico on March 26, 1928, passed away in Merced on January 28, 2008 at the age of 79 years.
Castulo was a devoted husband and father. He loved his wife, sons and daughter, above all things, always putting his family first before him. He was a man of great character, instilling in those who knew him love, compassion, integrity, honesty and above all a
strong work ethic. As a teenager, Castulo left Zacatecas, Mexico to come to the United States in search of work, like many who come to this country in search of a better life. Throughout his life he worked as a farm worker. He did everything in his power and was willing to go through any sacrifice to provide for his family. Castulo enjoyed going on outings with the family. He enjoyed gardening at home, talking and spending time with his family and lifelong friends. Castulo will be missed not only by his family, but by his friends and anyone who knew him.
Mr. Olvera is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ildefonsa Olvera of Planada; sons Robert Olvera of Planada and Francisco Olvera of San Diego; Luzalba Maldonado of Mexico who was raised as a daughter; brother Remedios Olvera of Mexico; sisters Natalia Carrilo of Mexico and Maria Isabel Chavez of Planada; grandchildren Frank Jr., Christopher, Shiela, Daniel, Baldo Ulyses, Alba Janet and Ivan.
A visitation has been scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2008 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Planada. The Mass of Christian burial will follow on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
