Julia Lang Obituary

Julia Ann (Judy)
Sept. 6, 1930 - Feb. 4, 2015

Judy passed away on February 4, 2015 at John Muir Medical Center in Concord, California, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. She died in peace with God in her heart, and family by her side.  Judy was survived by daughters Kathleen (husband Dave) and Eileen (husband John) and grandchildren Laura, Jonathan, Delaney, Avery and Reese.  She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, attending mass seven days a week; and also served as a eucharistic minister, bringing communion to ill parish members.  With incredible generosity, she contributed to numerous charities, including perhaps every existing Catholic organization. Judy was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on September 6, 1930; the granddaughter of Arkansas governor J.M. Futrell.  As a singer, dancer and piano player, her parents moved to Los Angeles as a child, in the hopes of her becoming an actor.  She moved back to Arkansas as a teenager, and attended Mt. Saint Mary's High School in Little Rock on a piano scholarship. There, she also played basketball, was in the Glee Club, program chair of the Latin Club, class treasurer, Biochemistry Club treasurer, Commercial Club treasurer, president of the League of Sacred Heart, Chaminade Club president, vice-president and treasurer of the League of Mary, English Club president, Math Club vice-president, and Homecoming Queen.  For her many accomplishments, she was selected as a National Honor Society scholar in 1948.   In 1952, she became a registered nurse, specializing in pediatrics. Judy moved to Merced in the late 1950's, where she retired from nursing and raised her family.  In Merced, during the early years, Judy was an active member and president of the Hospital Assistance League, directing and/or organizing many of Merced's "Follies".  In her later years, she enjoyed her beloved bridge group, as well as traveling to holy destinations, most recently to Medjuorge. Judy always lent great moral support to her daughters and grandchildren both in their endeavors, and in times of need. With unwavering courage and a great sense of humor until the very end, she was beloved by many; her strength, kindness, authenticity, and integrity were ineffable. Judy was a great inspiration to her family, and will be missed beyond words.  Services are scheduled to take place beginning at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday February 28th, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church; reception at church hall immediately to follow. Services are under the direction of Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home.

My sincere condolences to your family. Although it's been over 30 yrs. since I've seen Judy, what I remember best about her besides her great cooking!! is the fact that she was very direct and told you what was on her mind. One of God's Angels has returned home.
