Julie Etcheverry Obituary

Julie Etcheverry
May 22, 1924 - March 19, 2021
Fresno, California - Julie Etcheverry "Amatchi" passed away on March 19, 2021 due to complications of heart disease. She was born in Saint-?tienne De Baigorry, France on May 22, 1924 to Piérre and Marie Incaurgarat.
As a young girl Julie experienced the German occupation of France during the second world war. In 1946 she immigrated to the United States to join her childhood friend and lifelong love, Maurice Etcheverry. Shortly thereafter, they built a home and family in Los Banos, California, where they remained for the entirety of their lives.
Julie was a homemaker and active member of her community. She raised three daughters and one son. She was a grandmother to seven and great grandmother to six with two additional baby boys due this Fall.
Julie taught catechism and volunteered as a yard supervisor at Our Lady of Fatima School. Maurice and Julie were founding members of the Los Banos Basque Club and she also belonged to the Bo Peep's.
Julie enjoyed reading, gardening, dancing, and playing Mus, a popular Basque card game. She loved to travel and looked forward to annual summer vacations, trips to France, and winter getaways to Florida.
Julie was strong of faith, which carried her through 96 years of life with a positive and resilient attitude. She was an icon in her community and an Amatchi to many.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Etcheverry, brother Jean Leon Incaurgarat, and granddaughter Elyse Etcheverry. She is survived by her children, Grace & Hugo Sousa, Renée & Robert Freitas, Michelle & Charles Cozzo, and Maurice & Carol Etcheverry. Along with her grandchildren, Nicole & Richard Woods, Bridget & David Bischoff, Monique & Jeremy Burchett, Dr. Ashley & Jonah Cozzo-Fecteau, and Phillip Etcheverry (Alexa Gong) her great-grandchildren, Harrison & Grant Woods; Luca, Roman, & Maddox Cozzo, and Madeline Bischoff. Julie has three sisters in France and many nephews and nieces.
A Visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 10:00 am, followed by Recitation of the Rosary and Mass on Thursday, March 25th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Los Banos.
