Leo Johnson Obituary

Leo Lynn Johnson
February 5, 1932 - March 21, 2016
Leo Lynn Johnson was born on February 5, 1932 on a farm outside of Maple City, Kansas.  He passed away on March 21, 2016 at the age of 84 after living in Merced, California for 54 years.
Leo Johnson proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He served in the US Navy for 4 years, while being stationed out of Guam.  Leo met the love of his life Ann Nell while on leave from the Navy visiting his mother in the hospital. Ann was his mother's nurse, they fell in love and married on December 11, 1954 and spent 45 wonderful years together. After serving his country Leo became employed with Boeing Aircrafts for 22 years.
Leo moved to Merced, California in 1962, while living in Merced, he was employed with the Merced Union High School District as a maintenance worker for 25 years.  He was a coach as well as a board member for the Merced Jr. Football and Merced City League Baseball teams. Leo enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader on his son's troops. He was also an active member of the This Ain't Your Mama's Church.
Leo Johnson was a kind and loving husband, dad, granddad and friend to all. He loved the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. When his kids brought friends home, they immediately became part of the family. He carried on that tradition when his grandkids brought friends over.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Franciscan Convalescent Hospital and Bristol Hospice for taking care of Leo in such a kind and loving manner. We are so very grateful and appreciative for the services that were provided.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents; George Johnson and Pearl Johnson, wife; Ann Nell Johnson, son; William "Bill" Johnson, brothers; Elmore Johnson and William Johnson and his grandson; Tony Johnson.
Leo is survived by his children; Deidre Ramirez (Jesse) Delano, California, Joe Johnson (Shelle) Prineville, Oregon, Sabrena Ford (Gary) Merced, California, grandchildren; Courtney Johnson, Hillary Johnson, John-Henry Johnson, Pearl Ford, Dylan Ford and Sarah Ford, siblings; Jim Johnson (Betty) Arkansas City, Kansas and Lois Johnson (sister-in-law) Missouri.
In lieu of sending flowers, please make contributions to Valley Children's Hospital located at 9300 Valley Children's Place, Madera, California 93636 Attention Foundation Department. Valley Children's Hospital was very dear to Leo because of their care for his granddaughter Pearl.
A memorial service will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street Merced, California on April 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
